Re: 1st photo on post above- how has he got the loops on top of the vario case? the lash-to-loops like on top of mules? I want those, are they a DIY mod? or an extra you can buy somewhere?

The guy (I know him well) told me these are Metal Mule loops. He also has them on the side panniers.
It takes a little bit of work taking the outer bits apart first, but in essence it just takes a little drilling.

can you give more detail so i can attempt? i dont want to just start drilling my varios! step by step procedure if possible, so i know where to start after buying the metal mule lopps please

Ah.. no..
That would require a set of photo's, and that I did not do... Sorry..

But basicly you just take out all the screws at the front part of the case, including the locks, and remember where they were. The plastic round parts over the top-edges are seperate parts.
Then you measure exactly the with of the Metal Mule loops and drill 2 holes accordingly. They fit perfectly in the "square" space bits.

The 2 loops in the rear: Just drill holes throug the box and tighthen them with the screws from the inside.

If you take it step by step, its not a very big deal. Trust me ;)

thanks ECM... last question before i take my beloved panniers apart! I cannot find metal mule loops for sale anywhere...do you know where i'd find them?

You don't have to bolt the fixing plate on. I have cable tied my Givi plate on with double ties it works great. I used 3m film to stop the damage to the ADV rack.

The cable ties are very strong and easy to replace.

@ Narcoda:

I just ordered them fro metalmule.com directly. Just ask for black ones when you order. They had them about half a year ago.
