On my vario top box pannier there is a handle, the handle is attatched to a kind of bolack plastic panel (excuse the terms)- That black plastic panel slots onto the main body of the top box... The problem i have noticed is that the handle that slots onto the main body is missing the 4 securing screws that prevent the handle sectiion sliding from the main box unit. (Please see your vario top box to fully grasp this!) `I am wondering if any of the 'enginerringly inclined' Gsers out there can tell me what size screw it is i need to fill the gaps where there were 4 screws- so i can stop the handle sliding off my top box... please help as i have a long journey comming up...Many Thanks

more simple: what size screws do the vario top box panniers use? I am missing 4 from the section that attaches the handle to the box- help appreciated

Hi

Mine are small silver screws - the head is countersunk, but also with a slightly rounded dome, and according to my calipers...

The overall length (from top of "dome" to tip) = 14.0mm (the dome is about 1mm high so if you're getting flat heads the length would be around 13mm from flat head to tip)
Diameter of head = 5.3mm
Length of shank (i.e. from bottom of counter sunk sectiion to tip) = 11.5mm
Diameter of shank (including threads) = 2.9mm
Diameter of shank (middle bit - i.e. "between" threads) = 2.0mm

The shank is largely parallel except for last few mm being pointed

I am sure that level of precision is not required!

regards
Darren

Pictures...

Hope these help. Can't swear to the measurements, but they should be close enough.

Robin.

Thank you guys- incredible stuff! Do you know if I could buy these screws standard somewhere? and what wpuld i ask for? are there specific terms for these screws...

My technical expertise has now run out, I'm afraid. I'd either go and look in a hardware store for soemthign that looked like it, or I'd ask a man for some "countersunk self-tapping screws."

Have you tried STAGONSET? I've only used them once but was very impressed. :thumb2

Can you imagine my glee to find a post that required measuring something small ??? Like all my Christmasses come at once...
really useful looking tool that Robin. Are they expensive?

Halfords, £17.99. Seems to be accurate, but can only check by measuring my Halfords feeler gauges.

Well they give the same numbers as my calipers - and mine are good old fashion Verniers, none of this modern digital rubbish. I also prefer VHS to DVD.
