Anyone else had this issue?

Left out on bike for about 10 days during snowy phase. Cupfull of water in the bottom on opening.

Not especially worried as under warranty but wondered if this was a 'known issue'. Shame to replace as my UKGSER sticker, tag and winged skulls (I know :blush ) will have to be replaced.

Search says no one else has had similar issues but then again, I can never seem to get good results from searching this forum (wetware issue I think:()

My Vario topbox and panniers have been entirely continent for the three years I've had them, despite crossing Belgium where rain is the only weather they know. I'm not aware of leakage being a common problem.

Never had a mine leak, but didn't think they were classed as waterproof anyway hence the waterproof liners that cost an arm and a leg:)

mine's always on the bike and lives outside - never a drop inside in 18 months

If it's still under warranty then I'm sure it will be replaced, I had both side cases replaced 'cos they stuck in the open position. I said they were stuck, they said "here's some new ones".

As for your leak - have a look at the rubber seal in the lid, it is a tapered rubber strip in the recess around the edge. The upstand on the box base fits into the recess and the rubber can get folded over onto itself, leaving a gap, and may just need teasing flat against the side of the recess.
If the seal is OK, then your leak is probably through the opening\locking mechanism - I've not had that in bits, but there are O ring seals in there, apparently.

Depends on how much you want to delve, but see my first comment.

Thanks Phil

I was surprised by the leak as it took 4 months from new to start.

I'll nip out later and look at the seal again. Seems likely as it's been so frosty that the rubber might well be squished and got stuck in the cold.

Thought of lock at first but all look ok.

Mr Badger - Sell it and buy a Givi box

Varios are absolutely rubbish - the work of the devil. However as It is Friday and I am feeling Philanthropic, sell it to me for a ridiculously low price ...:D:D:D

Top box

Took mine to scotland , blew a gale with very heavy rain from all directions with no problems. Come to think of it inside the box was the only dry bit of me and the bike! Sun came out later with some of the best sights ive seen, soon forgot about the wet bits. :Motomartin:oonyack

Looks like it was the seals getting squashed and cold in the deep freeze recently. Now pushed back in place and looks ok for now.

Have considered going back to a Givi due to the bigger size but the vario is just so solid and neat. The one key system also sings it for me
