Vario Topbox on a GSA?

Has anyone fitted a Vario Topbox from a water cooled GS to the OE water cooled GSA rack?

If so, what did you need to do?

Yes fitted the top box and panniers from a GS LC you'll need the rack from a GS and rear foot rest plates

Got one from eBay @£41 and had to buy the other from dealer @£100 still cheaper than buying new Ali panniers as I already had a full set of vario's

Don't think you can do that, if you can I'd like to know how I'm sure its impossible to fit vario topbox to rack or panniers to rails

You will need to make up a plate that bolts to the GSA rack and mounted to that the latches to fit the bottom of the vario. I did it with my 09 GSA and vario top box. I assume the toilet top box vario is a similar mount.

There isn't anything that you can buy to do it directly so unless your handy with tools getting the GS mount would be the easiest route.

The OP is talking about top box only not the side cases so what is different about that mount. Bearing in mind I said similar not the same.

I've made a plate up that allows me to fit the Vario to my Hexhead GSA rack as Marki has already suggested ... works a treat... and not too much hassle to do . I've got the GSA panniers for when I need them, and the vario box for when I'm commuting .

You just need a bit of 2mm ally plate and sandwich the rack between the vario box mounting plate and the ally. Solid as a rock too

Yes, that's the thing we're trying to achieve but it looks like it may not be possible using the later water cooled fit Vario top box as the mounting for the box sits within the rack unlike the earlier Vario that has a plate sandwiched between the rack and box

We may end up having to use the pre 2013 style Vario box and plate

i have fitted varios to my last 3 GSAs the latest being the LC. I made up my own top plate and modified the SS rack. there was a bit of work in it but works well. i will post some pictures.

Used the top plate from my 2008 GS bolted to the GSA's frame and use the vario topbox with the GSA aluminium panniers. Works just fine.

Yeah but that's a pre 2013 vario topbox and isn't possible 2013 onwards
