Vario topbox rack

Tried to fit vario topbox rack to my 2005 gs but the u bolt frame that mounts above tailight by 2 bolts does not fit my bike as there is no cut out from the silver frame to allow the two bar ends to fit?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you fit a Vario "tripod" mount to an adv you sometimeS have to grind out the plastic on the rear bodywork to fit the two support bosses, depending upon year.

If that looks to be your problem - its easy enough to fix

Yes it looks that way I thought maybe that the support bosses were for a newer model bike as my brother has a 05 GS same year as mine and the support bosses fit perfectly on the bodywork. Many thanks for your help..

When I bought a vario mounting plate from a dealer, within the box were 2 profile transfers to stick on earlier racks to guide where to cut - binned them as I didn't need them. Have a look at later model where the rack is already profiled, copy the shape with a china graph pencil or crayon on your rack and carefully cut out with a Dremel.

I've just ben out to look at mine (2005 GS), and it looks like the plastic had been cut to fit the box

Yes thanks for the photo it must need cutting to fit bracket waiting to get a dremell then hopefully get fitted.
