Hi Folks,

I`m seriously considering changing my varios for the big box GSA panniers and was wondering if the GSA frames can be fitted to a 12 "sport" ;) GS and still keep the rear rack. I`ve got a nice TT rack extension and I`d like to keep it as it`s handy. Also are the GSA boxes as easy to remove and fix on as the varios?

Cheers

not as watertight? it`s a big alloy box, how hard is it to make watertight!!

Anyway it looks like this idea is down the pan since this afternoon my bike decided it liked 6th gear and has stayed there :( much clutch slip on the way home and another bike split bill in 6 months :blast

I have never had a problem with water entering my GSA panniers.

The corrosion on the GSAs is annoying, they should be supplied anodised. On the last bike I changed the Varios for Touratech Zega and to start with tried hard to keep the original shiny finish. Eventually I gave up and after a while the horrible spot marks all run together to result in a dull grey pannier which just has a well used look.

Incidentally, the Varios used to leak badly.

First, yes, the GSA frames can be fitted on a GS.
But, take a look at pictures from GS and GSA (on BMW website, e.g.). You'll notice end rack differs. Standard GS end rack must be removed, GSA end rack installed to fasten a GSA aluminium topcase.

Hope this answers your questions.

My GS has the Vario boxes. Never had a problem with water. Happy with them. 114000km on 2 R12GS.
