First trip away tomorrow on my awesome steed using the vario panniers and top box. Can anyone tell me if they known to be waterproof or not please?
It's a last minute trip- (was expecting to be working), so haven't had chance to get liner bags etc.
Thanks.

I've used varios since they were first launched. Always found them to be waterproof. Have a great trip!
( liner bags reduce the available space- so I wouldn't worry about not owning any. I only take my liner bags on 50% of trips)

get the £40 bags of ebay. handy to carry in to hotel etc and when clothes need washed then keep 1 as dirty bag/1 as clean bag.
no need for bag for topbox as i always use it to work out of with liners, maps drinks etc

Definitely are Waterproof...terrific panniers!

Have a great trip! :tarka

Had three sets on 4 bikes and found that they are not totally waterproof because of expansion system, but they are good enough. I always use the inner bags to give a bit of extra protection.

5 days of rain when touring the highlands in July ,waterproof enough !

Thanks for the replies chaps.
Got some bags from the ashes of hein gericke a few years ago that fit the varios near enough, but they are not waterproof.
Look out Scotland.....
Cheers.

Two sets to date, no leaks but inner bags good idea anyway.

Yes, they are waterproof. Keep the seal mating surfaces clean and don't jetwash.

Yes. They are waterproof for a day of riding in the rain.
And the occasional downpour / thunderstorms...
Agree with others that inner bags reduce space slightly, but they are better for carrying into hotels, up to cabins in ferries etc
Personally I use inner bags to keep things more neatly organised than bin liners...

+1 love the inner bags

Thanks.
Only had an hour of rain, so not really a proper trial, but bone dry inside.

I've had a little bit of water in the panniers during a really heavy downpour up here in Scotland in the last week, but I did have them wedged and hadn't been as careful as I could have been when packing them.

However, I have used the bags in the link below for years, and although there is no handle as such, when buckled together once folded, can be carried quite easily. The are extremely light weight and take up very minimal additional space. Everything from clothes to Apple products go in them, and have never got wet!!
