Various things I have done to my GS recently (with photos)

How can you put such crap on such a great bike, (or any bike) !
It's what puts me off buying into BMW ownership, which I am very close to doing. I'm surprised that you havent used a modified dustpan for a rear hugger as some one else on this forum has !!

You are put off buying a BMW by what I do to my bike? Bizarre.

That's a cool idea, thanks. As soon as I find a suitable dustpan I'll try it. :D

Oooh! I love filing stuff in the "It'll always annoy someone" folder...

I really wanted to build a set of panniers for my GSX-R... out of Bob The Builder Lunch Boxes... and go to a poser-meeting...

Never found the time or the right panniers tho...

;) :D

Two horns are louder than one! The two make different notes, so produce a wonderful discordant sound.

Besides, as I said earlier, it's an experiment. If the new horn gets all clogged up with road muck in that position, I'll probably move it. There are very few places on the 1200 that you can mount extra stuff like that though.

I also have two horns on mine. They are Hella 116db replacement horns and are sized about like the stock horn. I put them both where the stock one is. One attached in the stock position, but I took the thin flat bar stock brackets that came with the two new ones and bent them into sort of a gooseneck shape so that the second horn is held in front of the first. You have to experiment a bit with angle and positioning to avoid being in the way of the fork legs at full lock, but it can be done if you are patient.

I did try something like that, Emoto, but couldn't find a position for the second horn where it didn't get hit by the brake line as the forks compressed. Maybe I'll revisit this problem (having spent ages running power for the extra horn across the bike under the tank, doh!) :)

Cutting a "nice hole"

Mouse, for future use you can buy a tool called a cone cutter, used by sparkies to cut various siize holes. It would have been a 2 second job.
HTH Dave
You can get a couple of sizes this one is up to 20 mm.

I actually used something similar, but I couldn't find one large enough. So I had to enlarge the hole by "wiggling it about" a bit :)

Having the right tool is half the job done, usually!

If you haven't got a BMW I wonder what you're doing here?
Maybe it's to see what real bikers get up to. Did somebody mention beer?

One of these days, I'lll get my film developed and scanned and then I'll post some pictures, but to attempt to describe it, the second horn fits in front of the first, and is held there by a piece of flat metal strapping that IIRC is anchored where the stock horn bracket is also anchored and then projects up and over the original horn from behind in a curved arch. The new horn is also held at something of an angle, pointing off to the side, in other words, it does not face straight to the front. I had to keep moving the forks back and forth and re-bending the holder until I found just the right spot. It did take a bit of time.

I'm getting some perverse satisfaction at having offended so many people, who keep repeating the mantra "10 grand bike" - clearly I hadn't realised it's forbidden to fit anything to the bike that's not made from carbon fibre or fom Touratech :D

The R1150RT's I ride at work have incredibly loud horns, ideal for launching pedestrians into orbit, don't know if they're standard fit on thr RT or aftermarket.
