Not sure this is in the right section :nenau

Seen what seems a good deal on eblag, but seller is a bit short on detail. I'm fast losing interest, but still curious.

Had a search on here, but only got part answer. Need to phone HMRC but they won't be answering now, so just after a bit of a steer meantime :

1. is VAT always payable when buying a used bike from Guernsey?
2. is type approval from the VCA always needed?

Bike is just over 12 months old.

Guernsey is not in the EU... hence you need to pay VAT and Duties....

Also on the registration you might be able to work around it if it has an EU build certificate if not its SVA if they want to get fully onto you... (Depends on the VLA you go to)

If VAT hasn't been paid at or has been reclaimed if the bike has been exported then it would be subject to duties when it is reregistered in the UK.

If it is relatively new it should be relatively painless to import, my GS was a German import and just had to be reregistered and the speedo changed. Takes about 3 weeks. I can't imagine it would be significantly different from Guernsey.

If you buy a Guernsey registered bike you have will be expected to pay VAT based on the price you pay I belive.

If the bike is shipped to UK for you then you will pay the VAT based on the purchase price you paid. or you can pop over to the island, and get on a ferry and ride it back to UK - its up to you then when you re register the bike then you would pay the bike.

Bikes on Guernsey have no MOT but are full UK spec, dont think you will have an issue with approval.

We dont pay VAT on purchase price over here but the bikes are the same.

I have a nice VFR 1200 DCT for sale if your interested LOL :augie

Best advice, is to drop a PM to ARSEY.:thumb2
He's a "Donkey" and has bought and sold many bikes twixt Guernsey and Mainland.

Thanks all for the replies. :clap Sent PM to Arsey as suggested.

Bigger problem may still be fairly half arsed seller, but handy to know the implications :thumb2

PS 'Donkey' ? :nenau
