Just a reminder for those planning overseas purchases.

The registration of vehicle in the "sunny" republic changes to the NCT offices from tomorrow.....

Make sure all is in order, looks like they have re testing fees :mad:

Check out www.revenue.ie or www.nct.ie

From what I've heard, all they're doing is assessing the bikes for VRT valuation purposes and the fee will be deducted from the final bill.
If this is true, it wont affect anyone buying vintage/veteran bikes as the cost is set at €50 I think.

I've not heard any of this. What's going on? Are bikes not going to be VRT'd on cc any longer?

someone in the NCT will look at your vehicle and make sure it has no undeclared extras,(sun roof, air con,sat nav)that sort of thing and that it is a gti and not a cheaper duty gl
the poor goverment feels people are clearing vehicles as lower spec and saving money on the vrt so the idea of this is to stop that
there is a charge of just under 50 euro for this check which will come off the vrt duty when you pay the vrt
not sure about bikes but cars over 30 years attract no vrt what so ever but will still have to pay the 50euro valuation fee.(only in Ireland)

I cant understand why bikes are affected when all bikes are valued on is cc. As far as I know a bandet 1200 would be in the same cat. as a new vfr because they are both assessed on cc. If so what is the point of getting someone to look at them? JJH

Probably so as to determine if it is a 1200 or 600 bandit....

NCT VRT

There is now a lot more paperwork involved now as a result of the process been transferred to the NCT. This is taken off their website,

Used Vehicle:

1)Please print and fill out the following Declaration Form for the Registration of a used Vehicle/ Motorcycle

2) Evidence of previous registration e.g. foreign certificate of registration, a certificate of permanent exportation or a certificate of de-registration, as appropriate (this document will be retained by NCTS so please ensure you make a copy of it before you go to the test centre).

3) Invoice which must have the date of purchase/sale clearly indicated

4) Documentation verifying the new registered owner’s name and address (Utility Bill, Bank Statement, please note original documentation will only be accepted)

5) Personal Public Service (PPS) Number of the person in whose name the vehicle shall be registered to (Official documentation will only be accepted i.e Social Services Card, P60)

6) For vehicles imported from Northern Ireland, where the invoice is dated more that 30 days earlier than the date the vehicle is presented for registration, details of where the vehicle was stored. For vehicles purchased elsewhere (including the UK), shipping details to confirm the date of arrival of the vehicle in the State. Where satisfactory evidence of the date the vehicle entered the state is not available, an additional charge may be raised by Revenue for the period from the invoice date to the date of registration.

7) Where an exemption from VRT is claimed, the exemption certificate issued by Revenue.

8) Documentation (as approved by the Revenue Commissioners) confirming the level of CO2 emissions of the vehicle at the time of manufacture (if this information is not on the foreign certificate of registration). Where evidence of the level of CO2 emissions of the vehicle at the time of manufacture is not available at registration VRT will be charged at the highest rate applicable.

9) For vehicles over 4 years old, an unexpired roadworthiness certificate confirming that an equivalent to the NCT test has been passed. Where this documentation is not available, the vehicle may be called for a roadworthiness test shortly after registration.

All documents above are compulsory and the vehicle will not be registered unless they are all presented with the vehicle at registration.

VRT under the new system !
Anyone try to get a vrt quote for a car thats not on the vrt calculator ?

You cant . There are no vro offices anymore according to the lady on 1890430130 (the vrt change over help desk). You have to buy the car & bring it to the nct people. They will contact the vrt people that will give the quote....

So you end up with a car and cant get a quote in advance to see if the vrt is reasonable.:confused::confused:

That's my biggest worry too - I had planned bringing in a car early next year but crazy doing it unless you know what you'll be paying beforehand.

The crowd running the NCT now aren't the most efficient or clued in either - try making an appointment........PITA to get a time that suits.
I'm convinced that their site doesn't work either - they said it shows appointments up to 8 weeks in advance (I've never seen a free time on it) and it's the same system the clowns you ring use - yet the ones I was on the phone to could only tell me what was available a week in advance.
One woman last week did admit that their system is f*^ked.

What was already an illegal activity is now bordering on criminal. I heard that VRT valuations are based on whats popular. For example, if they see a trend for importing MK2 golf GTi's, they whack up the VRT, same with BMW 525 sports. There is no set criteria. They're making it up as they go along.
Bottom line is that they don't want people importing vehicles and the motor trade are lobbying our weak gov't for exactly this sort of legislation.
