Verns Worldbeaters

Us too

We have them too. 11 inch black with deep silver lid (why the colour matters is beyond me). There also have another advantage, yes I dropped my 1100 and it fell on the pannier as i lifted it of the center stand, to be honest with the 11 inch you cant tell its fallen over it looks like its on the side stand there are that big. Not a mark on the bike or the panniers, built to last.
We are doing the Pan Am only 49 days to go, we have plenty of room, will be two up with full camping gear, highly recommended.

Strong?? I should say so:) Here`s my LHS pannier after a 35mph slide onto tarmac. The strength of the pannier and frames undoubtedly saved my 1100 from terminal damage.

MattW - your new panniers look great. Looks like they really belong on the bike. What size of lids did you get?

Hi Toolmaker,
I'm really pleased with them. I ended up doing 100 miles or so today with them on - you don't really know they're there - no adverse effects on handling / stability etc (having said that they had next to nothing in them :) ). I got the 100mm lids - there a pretty useful amount of storage space in the lids alone - ideal for waterproofs / documents etc that you may need quick access to.

I just removed them - 10 minutes taking my time - just requires a 13mm spanner and a 6mm allen key. Pictures below Tony - the last one shows the 'L' brackets on the footrest hanger mount reversed to tuck them out of the way.

cheers
Matt

HI, sorrie to hijack your thread.

just wanna know where did you get the crash bar from?
any brand?? do you think it will fit on the R1100gs with the big touratech tank?
thanks!!!!:beer::beer::beer::beer:

Well, I went to Vern's today and rode away with a pair of 11" panniers fitted. The workmanship and fit and finish has to be seen to be appreciated and knock mass produced stuff into a cocked hat. Although he was working on other stuff, Vern happily spent a couple of hours talking the choices through with me and then as I'd chosen some he had on the shelf, fitting the frames and boxes. He even fixed the front indicator I had taken out by a (now dead) pheasant on the way to his workshop :D

Thanks Vern :thumb2

Hi there,

I'm afraid I don;t know the brand of the bars - they were on the bike when I bought it and were completely without manufacturers marks. To be honest I didn't like them and I sold them a couple of years ago. I just use head guards now.

I doubt they'd have fitted the big Touratech tank - I think they would not have enough room for the large lower lobes of the big tank.

The ones in the photo wont fit with the TT tank, neither will hepco and becker ones, i have the TT tank on my bike and the only crash bars that appear to fit are the original BMW ones or the TT ones, neither of which are actualy any good as crash bars!! it you look how they mount,, they are not the best in the world. I have a set fitted and use them for attaching straps/tank bag and camera too, but Steptoes head guards are the way to go for protection use. With them and a set of verns panniers the bike is well protected :-)

Hepco & Becker fit with the TT tank, albeit with a wee bit of modification. :)

sorry I stand corrected, almost anything can be made to fit with a little persuasion but not straight out of the box, the use of a Birmingham screwdriver can get most things to fit.

have you got any idea how much mod do i need in order to get the HB bar fitted onto my bike? will there be any cutting or just bending?
thanks!!!!

you may get away with just bending the bar at the front that goes up to the headstock. But I havent tried, I have just had a look at my bike and my wifes. I have the tank she has the engine bars.
