What used to be the speedo drive hole will be a vent. Is there any reason I CANNOT insert 800cc 80W/90 gear oil there:confused:

I'd leave the speedo gears in there to act as an oil baffle pre vent. We found that if these weren't in place the gearbox tended to vent condensed oil 'bubbles' out of the breather. Once in the line, air pressure from the heating gearbox tended to spit the oil bubbles out thru the breather line.

Provided that you remove the vents & the speedo gears, I guess you could use that as a fill port?

OK.

Bottle says "Extreme Pressure Gear Oil" at back says meets GL4 and GL5. Probably nomenclature nuances country to country?

I use one that says GL 5/6 , better up a grade than down one , as G/L 5 is the minimum required by the angle cut gears
I find the 5/6 noticeably improves the gear change too, so there is something tangible as well as superior lubrication.

Spot on. I'm using this fill as a flush run so grabbed the cheapest off the shelf. My baby's going to get triple price synthetic when push comes to shove:thumb

My 5/6 is a BP Limslip limited slip oil which my servo was remaindering at $2- a liter.
I grabbed a case to use as a flusher and on the bikes which are lightly used, and was pleasantly surprised to find that it improved the gear change too.
I was using the $18- M1 synth and will keep using it in the G/S box , but the rest, and the car, will get the Limslip.

You probably know this, but if you are filling the gearbox from the speedo hole, it still may be worth taking the filler bolt out of the LHS of the gearbox, to ensure you don't over fill.
