Very silly mistake

In preperation for a trip down the west coast of France that starts on Saturday I decided to top up the ACF 50 on my Adventure because we will be on the coast road and stopping at beaches etc.

....that would not enter the head of anybody else on this planet........ EVER......

............

Just how salty did you expect your awesome steed to get on the coast roads of western France?

Were you planning on riding along the beach, splashing up a bow wave in the surf? Or just parking up in the car park to chill with like minded?

I keep my bike acf50'd all year round anyway but I figured as everyone keeps going on about how they corrode so bad it wouldn't hurt to re apply it after a wash.

This month my bike is 3 years old with near enough 18k miles on it. No corrosion apart from the stone chippings on the centre stand and it has never seen ACF50 (I do keep a can or 2 in the garage). It was however coated in Bilthamber Dynax-UC once but that proved a bastard to remove (still on the bike in a few hard to reach places). Best stuff ever if you ride through winter as it is waxy and nothing washes it off apart from white spirits, WD40 and GT85. Just regular cleaning with quality cleaning products, polish and wax afterwards to give that protective layer. Yes I know it is a bit anal and time consuming and the bike should be ridden not kept in a garage :D

There a lots of people on here who only use ACF50 in the winter , everyone knows its magic fucking bean juice that costs a fortune to apply in the summer months that is the order of the day to keep the steed in tip top condition.

Which of course is nothing like what your opening post told us:

Enjoy your holiday and don't worry too much about the salinity of the air in the west of France.

Poor bugger can't win! He's constantly told that anyone who doesn't coat their GS in ACF50 will watch it corrode before his very eyes, so he posts a cautionary tale to help others and is flamed - not only for cocking up, but for using ACF50 in the first place.

Thanks for sharing mate; someone will be along shortly to tell you the forks will fall off your ill-handling, slow, ugly, rusty, crappy bike!

Just how salty is the air and the roads on the west coast of France during a summer break, Sea Dog? It was in preparation for his France jaunt that he grabbed the jollup and got busy (to the point of over excitement and mistakes) with its wildly enthusiastic application.

As to the rest? I quite enjoyed his tale of fecking up.

You should spray some on yourself to stop the salty comments affecting your appearance :D

Nicely put! :D I was trying to be a bit supportive of this poor bloke though....

Note to self- do not post stupid things I've done on this forum. :)

Because his understandable reaction to harsh responses means we'll have to learn by our own mistakes in future, which hurts more and is far less fun. ;)

And me - I just thought the crowd were a little tough on him! ;)

'Course, he's got a GS, and who could expect to admit to owning one of those on this forum and not be ridiculed for his choice?! :D

If it amused a few people it was worth posting.

I know the way to keep a bike in good condition is to keep it clean and wash it regular but frankly I can't be arsed.
A couple of washes a year, a few Liberal doses of ACF50 a year, a cold hose down after a winter ride keeps them good enough.
But I thought it would be nice to go away on a shiny bike for a change so I washed it then I thought I would re apply the ACF50 due to the sea air, I have no clue how salty the air will be but this coating will take the bike through to April / May 2018 when the UK stop gritting the roads so its all good.
