I know i can spend £150 on a set of custom made earphones, but i would like something a lot cheaper. Problem is standard ear phones make my ears hurt under the crash helmet, after about two hours. Same on all three helmets i own. Anyone out there using something that does the job?
Tried helmet speakers, not ideal as i wear glasses.

thanks. nick

I bought two of those mono ear monitors, that make you look like a security guy, soldered a sterio 3.5mm plug, cut the in ear bit off,got 2 earplugs, the soft green ones, heated up a nail and put a hole through the middle, poked the clear tube through and superglued in place, works a treat

like this

into these

when they are getting rough, i cut them off and put a new pair of plugs on them, only problem is they occasionally stop working and you have to take the plastic tube out and blow the moisture out, but thats only occasionally

i have the Intaride system so i cut the speakers off and soldered a sterio socket in its place, the sockets/plugs were bought from Maplin :augie

As with most things in life, you pays yer money.....:rob

I tried all kinds of in-ear speakers etc at vastly differing prices, some worked, most didn't but non were actually designed for going under a helmet and non were perfect..:(

Finally bit the Bullet a few years ago and got custom moulded....end of search...

Leave it with you Nick....;)

If you are willing to do an hours work the answer is there.

I've done it to two lids now and works a treat.

Go to maplin and buy either their cheap outer ear headband at 3.99 or the fancy clip on ones at 9.95

Also buy an extn lead.

Remove band or plastic outer case.

Locate ear canal relative to the helmet.

peel back liner

skim out a recess in the styrene- I use a dremil

fit, tuck in excess cable

add a bit of heat shrink or tape around plug wire to prevent internal wire breakage and leave poking out.

stick on head and plug in ext.:thumb

I use a boosteraroo thing to make audio clearer if over 70mph and wearing earplugs.

It may seem strange for an Aberdonian but I would say spend the money on the in ear monitors. Just back from two weeks in Europe and its's the first time I have not had sore ears, headaches from using earplugs on long runs. The monitors are great at blocking out the wind noise and the quality of the sound from the iPod was brilliant I was actually hearing bits in the music that I had never heard before and that was whilst running at autorute speeds. Definetly worth going for IMHO.

Have you spoken to schiannini from here? Not tooo far from you (he's in Cambridge) and he's an agent for Green Leopard custom made ear plugs + monitors.

Great bloke doing a good product. :thumb2 Main web site

Hi Nick,
I've had the ultimate ear monitors and they are very good but expensive,
What I have now found for £30 are the Sienhouser (not so sure on spelling) in ear head phones. vary small bud with soft plastic inner ear piece and they work extremly well they are supplied with 3 sizes to tailor fit. have used them on a trip to northen spain travelled at 140+ on my blade and could still hear very well from my ipod... they cut out background noise generlly als and as such make life that much more peacfull

when I find the correct spelling will let you know. 2 glasses of wine and I am anyones!

PS Most DIXONS or comets have them in stock in either black or white

I assume you are referring to the Sennheiser CX300's? if so, they have come down in price significanlty and are now available for £15.29 delivered on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1189550126&sr=8-4

For the price, they are very good.
