Mine Two

This gear thing is obviously a very common problem. My GS (new Nov 05) went into `Ducati Mode(doesn't work in the rain)' just after 600 service.

First indication was after a very wet run when the gear indication went into random mode - but was OK when dried out. Did the same on next wet run but did not correct itself. South London Motorcycles fixed it with new sender unit and its been OK since - with many wet runs and pressure washing.

Mine too!

I've had my bike a month... Have been meaning to post here about how I'm generally quite pleased with it... But the problems have started already.
This gear / neutral sensor fault sounds like a very common problem - can anyone say if lots of WD40 in the right spot will FIX it - or is it back to Wollastons already??? Only done 300 miles since it was in for the first 600 mile service.

Can someone post a pic of the sensor location so i know where to spray lots of WD40, and so i can avoid spraying water on when i wash it!

I can't find the previous thread on this but it's the black triangular piece with a wire going into it that you can see on the back of the gearbox, if you look at the gap between the battery and the swing arm.

I did have a word with Prestige when I was in and asked them to look after you as a fellow gser...they hadn't done it yet when I talked to them...but hopefully all sorted now... :thumb

Gear indicator going mad

Just to let all you R12GS owners know , the gear box potentimeter on the back of the gear box operates between the voltage range of .4 volt ~ 4.5 volts , once water get's in it goes mad . The new switches seem to cure the problem . Spraying WD40 is a waste of time , just pop in to your local BMW dealer and get it changed . Dont expect a " while you wait service " , because the switch is located above the exhaust CATT , and get's ferking hot !!!!!!! .
