Vibration at 5000 rpm - 2014 GS TE

I have to be honest, I had my doubts about them, but they have really restored my faith in them :thumb

Been watching with interest, good luck on your choices, couldn't be fairer, if you were to try/buy a demo bike that you had already ridden & are happy with before taking delivery..
Also name the dealer, they deserve a mention IMO

The dealer has done a good job of offering some good options, but I wouldn't name them until an outcome has been reached.:thumb

Has anyone else ridden your bike and experience the vibrations? Particularly someone from dealer?

I agree Rich. I've always been a believer in credit where its due, and you can always measure a dealers commitment to good customer service when things go wrong, not when they are selling you the bike.

Once this is sorted out, I'll disclose the dealer as they deserve credit, and fellow members will know they can go to this dealer with the knowledge they will be looked after pre and post sale.

Yes, three people from the dealership, but they felt it rode like a "GS".

My brother has ridden it twice and his friend once. My brother has 32 years experience on bikes, all makes, and his friend has 27 years of BMW bike ownership under his belt. Both agreed the vibration was excessive, and my brother rides a Ducati!

Well the OP has indirectly told us who the dealer is.

It's North Oxford Motorrad.

The OP lives nearby in Witney, works in Hemel Hempstead and went "up" the M40 to J5 on his test ride, in his comfort zone in direction of work from home. All as per the OP's posts.

NOX sound like they are being great BTW.

A BIG thank you for all the feed back and advice. I going to the dealers this Wednesday. I was supposed to go yesterday, but ended up at the vets most of the day with our dog, but thats another story..

I have a number of options, and I must say, the dealer has been great. My options are:

Return the bike to be looked at by BMW and be given a loan bike until its fixed.
Return the bike and put the purchase price towards a new GS or GSA. The new bike would be discounted as a good will gesture.
Return the bike and swap it for another 2014 GS TE.
Return the bike, get a refund and order a new S1000RR.
Return the bike for a full refund.

So as you can see, they are being more than supportive. Its really reassuring they are totally supporting me, and not just fobbing me off.

Some good options there. I would say take the refund. Start again. Get the GSA that you really want (any color - you can change if it easily if it bothers you).

My money is on something being out of balance in the engine on your current bike. Crankshaft out of spec?

Bet it will end up back at BMW HQ for stripping and root cause analysis. Followed up with large bill to supplier of faulty part.

If it helps you are welcome to come down to mine in W London and you can have a go on my 2014 GSA and I can have a go on yours to compare vibrations. My bike wears unbalanced TKC80's and is vibration free BTW.

I experienced this exact thing on a WC GSA test ride from Costwold Gloucester (while they were fixing all the damage they did to my bike during the previous visit :( ). Felt like it was coming from the engine/lower tank area, it made me feel a bit queasy. Anyway it was very strange and just one of the reasons that I would not consider moving from the old to the new GSA !

All quiet from the OP. Has it all been fixed I wonder?

Sorry for the lack of updates folks. With starting a new job, Christmas and 4 kids at home and a new beagle puppy, life is a bit full on at the moment....

The bike was due back to the dealers last Wednesday, but due to work commitments, I couldn't get the time off. I've just started a new job, and as a senior manager on induction, its hard to ask for time off to sort out your motorbike...

I had arranged to take the bike back today for the full refund, and to place an order for a new RR, but I've decided to give BMW technical a crack at fixing this bike. My reason, bar the vibration its a fanatic bike. I love the colour, the condition is mint, it came with the panniers and top box, I've had the BMW alarm installed, the quick shifter, LED lights, akra can, Nav 5 and a number of Touratech accessories, so it just made sense to try and fix the issue. I also got it for a cracking price, a price I would really struggle to match again.

My faith in the dealer continues, and when the bike goes back on the 3rd, I'll get a loan bike until mines hopefully fixed.

My options if the vibration cannot be fixed to my satisfaction were not discussed today, but based on my experience to date, I would imagine I would be looked after.

I was going to wait until this has all been resolved to name the dealer, but I feel I should name them as some of you may be in the market for a new bike as a 2015 treat, and I can honestly say that in my 30 years of motorbike ownership, owning Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha, most of the bikes purchased new from dealers, I have never experienced the level of customer service as I have from this dealer.

They have been supportive, helpful and more than obliging. I would recommend them to my mum!

I have owned BMW cars for over 20 years, but never a BMW bike, this was my first.

The dealer......

BAHNSTORMER MAIDENHEAD A massive thank you to Dean for his dedication in trying to resolve this issue, and ensuring what was best for me is always the priority.

Not forgetting Ryan in sales, Simon in parts and all the guys in the service department for looking after my needs.

I'll update the thread once I get my bike back in the New Year, and again, a BIG thank you to all for your input and advice.

Thats really kind of you, thank you. Once I get the bike back, maybe we can meet up? It would be great to get a comparison.

Perhaps you should do a back to back test against another bike using a vibration meter to get actual measurements.

An app such as this might be accurate enough.

Otherwise hiring a proper measurement tool would be the way to go.

Had mine the week before Crimbo from the same dealer, same salesman etc.

Friendly and great to deal with. I live in Stoke on Trent, so they were not just around the corner - but a good deal made me go a bit further.

Last one was serviced at Cotswold BMW and as this is nearer than Maidenhead, they will probably get the service work for my new one too.

I just don;t like the dealers near me!

So glad they are sorting it out for you. Faith is restored now in case I have similar issues.

Mine was the blue one behind Ryans desk.
