Vibration at 5000 rpm - 2014 GS TE

I can't see why the engine bars would make a difference, especially as they have already been off before.

But re-torquing the engine mounts make mucho sence to me.

Good luck.

Informed today the bike is fixed. Has the same level of vibration now as any normal 2014 GS LC.

Until I collect the bike on Friday, I won't know for sure, but I have no reason to doubt them as this time.

I've had 2 lemons and one had a replacement engine and neither had any vibrations whatsoever (not even an acceptable amount)

Picking my bike up tomorrow :thumb2

Mucho reassurance its fixed and rides as it should.

I really hope this is the case, as I just want to enjoy it (despite the crap weather!).

I'll update the thread tomorrow :D

Sorry guys, I wanted to ride the bike a bit more before making my final decision. With the poor weather and 4 kids at home, its been a mission to get out on it.

OK, after the re torquing of the engine mounts, and changing the engine crash bars is has helped. The vibration is less than before.

Does the bike ride the same as the test bikes I rode? in a word, no. I wouldn't of purchased my bike if I had test rode it as it is now.

The bike is more "ridable" thats for sure, but I still have the issue of commuting 126 miles a day on it with the current level of vibration, even at the reduced level. Its still to high.

It would be perfect for short trips, sainsburys, visiting mum, friends etc, but could I live with it on a daily basis commuting to work, the answer has to be no.

Would I want to do the proposed 4000 mile tour of Europe on it this summer year, defiantly not.

Bahnstormer have been great, I stand by that (bar a small issue re the condition the bike was returned in).

Its the bike, it must of been made on a Bank Holiday Friday and will never be right.

What my plan now, I honestly don't know?

The bike is not fit for purpose, surely you have customer rights for BMW to replace it.

Return it for a refund, as we all said earlier in the thread

I wouldn't have been as patient as you

I was offered a replacement bike or a new one (me paying the difference), but decided to let them fix this one as I really liked the bike, and had spend a lot of money have the quick shifter, LED lights, alarm, crash bars and the ADV tinted screen fitted.

If I could of got a blue ADV, I would of purchased one of those, but was told none were available until March time.

Regret not going down the route of replacement now to be honest.

They still may replace the bike without any "falling out".

Invoke your rights under the sale of goods act and insist on either a refund or replacement machine.

As for the accessories the cost of them should be included in the refund assuming you bought them at the same time or simply transferred to the replacement bike

Are you sure youre not being all totally ocd, its a motorbike, they do vibrate a bit, there may be tiny differences due to manufacturing tolerances. Ask to borrow one of the others for a week to commute on with a view to a swap if you can commute happily on it, if it doesnt cause you issues.

I dont think BMW should be held to task just because the bike doesnt suit someone but hopefully an extended comparison with an 'identical' bike will give you both a clear view of the direction you need to go it. Good luck.

Good point Si. It might also be worth getting someone else who's local and has the same model to ride it in order to compare it with theirs or better still do a quick swap to compare both. The other option which might be beneficial is to have the bike remapped. You might wonder how that would help but my experience having my current car remapped is that it's much smoother than it was previously. GSes are mapped notoriously lean as standard and it'd certainly be worth having the discussion with Geoff at Hilltop.

No, not OCD Si. The bikes not right, never has been. I've now ridden a number of these, so know mines worse than those I had a go on.

Its better than it was, but I wouldn't want to use it as a daily.

I fully understand the vibration on bikes, flat / V twins etc, I've been riding for over 30 years, I'm 47 now.

I'm going to ask my mate Rich to have a go on it. He's owned GS's and currently had a GSA.

The week long lone bike idea is a good suggestion as well.
