Thanks to everyone for taking the time to reply. Can definitely confirm that both pipes are indeed stainless. Unfortunately my plug socket is a little too large to fit inside the head and as BMW has seen fit to stop supplying one in the tool kit I haven’t been able to do a plug chop yet. Got a mate with a GSA + full tool kit so guess I’ll borrow his plug spanner.

I think the two pipes are most likely to be made from the same steel stock, as unlike on the 1150, they are part of the same unit - ie not seperate pipes and Y piece.

Here's a crazy idea in the absence of a thermometer - start the bike from cold and grab both header pipes. See which hand gets hot first Don't blame me if you burn yourself!
