Vibration problem = pins & needles

OK, been having a look for grip puppies.

I've found lots of write ups, but no links for purchasing some.

Does any one have a link?

e bay, it leads you to the company, but ebay is a tiny bit cheaper

I reckon it is often to do with things like wrist angle, glove or jacket arm tightness, posture etc.

i changed gloves an it helped , not as tight,
angle of bars, i looked at that last night, an i recon if i got some that angled back a little bit more , id get even pressure on my hands,
im gonna bend some and try it
:nenau

I had the same problem on my 07 GS - not quite to the extent the pins and needles were all the way up my arm, just the hands.

I switched to a GSA in Sept. last year and no more pins and needles - weird! I have had it just once about 3 weeks ago, but I think it was me gripping the bars too tight.

grip puppies

www.sportouring.com £11.99 I bought the last set off them today (they have more coming in) fitted mine an went for A ride of about 60mile they do make a differance.:thumb2

My GSA with 12k miles was as smooth as a very smooth thing:bow…...Until I fitted an old, part-worn Tuarance rear tyre (which I found in my loft). I know I shouldn’t have, but I hate things going to waste (and I’m a bit strapped for Wonga at the mo:augie).

But my bars vibrate like a Jack Hammer now:eek:. The rear tyre was balanced when fitted, but having Metz rear and Bridgestone front probably doesn’t help either.

Grip Puppies ordered.

I think it is a posture sort of thing. I've spent the last two days trying to work out what I was doing/how I was riding etc.

I'm locking my arms out when riding. Holding the grip quite tightly. So lent in more to the bars and loosened my grip.

= No pins and needles.

So this AM ride in, in relaxed mode, not being conscious of my riding position, and I get pins and needles. AAAARGH!

Oh well, will move the bars a little and see if that helps, as mentioned above ordered grip puppies and go from there.

Thanks for all the input guys. Will keep you updated

I'm a bit stuffed with seat position.

I'm very short in the legs.

I've had the BMW low seat, lowered. Which has had so much cut out of it, (it's got a 10mm gel pad and thats it) the seat curves with the shape of the seat base. So when riding I've no option to move back and forth, I'm sort of held in one place.

Hence the 'relaxed' position, I'm not able to shift myself back and forth.

I must admit I'm wondering if it was such a good idea to have the low seat modified. Perhaps trying the low seat out properly first might have been a better option.

How'd you know I suffer with vertigo?

LOL

:trippy

Please note the emotion has no relevance to this thread, I just like it.

I did a quick 150miles yesterday at high speed and couldnt feel the tips of my fingers for 20mins when I got home.

The reason ? - weights had fallen off the front wheel. Its in today for 18k service so we'll see what its like on its return.

With the GS I think the vibration does tend to vary at different engine speeds (as you'd expect I guess). I tend to ride at a certain 'speed' rather than engine revs (where conditions allow etc etc). If you're riding a variety of roads and speeds and still getting the tingling then suspect its wheel weights rather than engine ?

My ride is a 18 - 20 mile commute, each way. 18miles down and up the A22/A23, or a blast through the lane/country side of 20miles.

I know where peeps are coming from re wheel weights. I've just had two new tyres (500miles ago) fitted by BMW, whilst they were doing the last lot of warranty work. So I had discounted that it could be lost balance weights, but ...... I guess I'd better have a check.

In my experience, it's the most junior member of the work experience staff who fits the weights....

When you had the seat cut down and fitted it in the low position, did you rotate the levers upwards? otherwise your hands will be overreaching to use them, rough guide, sit on bike, rest hand on grips, extend fingers so they are in line with your arms (like a fascist salute but without the pointing in the air....or attitude :ronno). Are your fingers resting easily on the levers? if not try rotating them.

Then go back and adjust the guards so your clutch doesn't slip amd brake come on 'cos your levers now touch the inside of the guards.:)

Levers are in a suitable position .... I think LOL.

This morning i had a very spirited ride in, OK yes I was late.

4500 - 6000k rpm lots of vibration and fingers started to go numb on my right hand.

Cluthed in and the vibrations went.

So I guess either they all give vibration, or mine needs a looking at. (and grip puppies fitting)

It's due a service soon, so I'll bring it up then. I use South London BMW in Caterham, and so far they've been more than helpful on the warranty issues I've had. (Fog light switch packing up, oil switch leaking (resulting in oil running all down the engine), stalling regularly on throttle shut down, and a slipping clutch. The slipping clutch only slipped at 90-100+mph in 6th, whilst giving it a hard full throttle. :augie)

I've only had the bike since Dec last year, I ride hard, so the vibration could become a problem. A problem to the point of the bike having to go.

I'm wearing summer gloves now, so hadn't noticed the vibration initially, perhaps the grip puppies will 'skirt' round the issue. Fingers crossed it can be sorted, as of all the bike I've owned and ridden, I love it.
