Sorry to post this one again folks. Just had the 1150gs serviced before bombing off 4000 miles to craotia in June. Took it for 140 mile spin yesterday and ..you guessed it..numb hands,,pins and needles for some 4 hrs after. Read every thread last night and all fired up to (get someone else) to do a valve check and carbtune but thought I'd ring my local dealer first.

Response... Was I sure that it didn't do it before...Valves take shims and should be OK... its fuel injection and therfore can't balance carbs..!

They will look at it next week but it doesn't sound hopeful. Bikes done 37000 miles I'm afraid...also has noisy 'take up' in first on the shaft drive...could this be at fault? (pull in clutch and all vibes disappear). Any pointers????

Some dealer, valves are not shimed the are good old fashoned locknut and adjuster and as to balancing carbs well they are right no carbs but the fuel injection can be balanced. find a new dealer or independant.

Hi Pragmatix (bought your mudguardthingy ..thanx)

Dealer is held in high regard on here and I was a little disappointed to hear his response.

What I am hoping is that the valve adjustment and carbtune (even if I have to do it myself) will sort the vibes out. Can't think of anything else it might be but not looking forward to ten days riding like this. Also I think I noticed the dreaded surge at 3.5/4k revs. Do the two changes make THAT much difference before I attempt them?

The anamnesis is very simple:

1. Valve adjustment probably performed with cold engine.
2. Valve clearance too tight
3. Synchro - if performed at all - is crap.

If you don't stick religiously to these points, you'll never have a properly balanced engine.

BTW: Did they perform a test drive before the gave you the machine back? How many miles? Any comments?

Pack of arseholes. Name and shame them for the benefit of others. This dealer must be avoided at all costs for peddling blatant lies like that.

Yeah..... get a new map! We're going to Croatia in June too.... but I reckon it's only 885 miles from "The Hook".... Even going via CZ is only 1000 miles......:D OK.OK so we're only going down to Porec and you could add on another 350 to Dubrovnic...:D

<edit>...just read that .pdf file that Pragmatix links to. Fantastic...had me chuckling in my coffee... I'm going to print it and frame it and put it on the workshop wall..:)

Yeah OkOk...I reckoned 1200 from home plus a little diversion into the Alps, Lake Garda, Venice etc..

Anyway, I shall sees what my dealer has to say and if not helpful I shall get my milking stool out and have a go myself...
