Hey all, on the left hand side of my 2004 GS, it looks like the rubber gasket flange connector thing has come away. There is nothing leaking from it. It's still air tight. Is this a problem. I have no clue how to tighten it either. Two pics for comparison. I've tried pulling, pushing etc.
I have had an intermittent vibration on the bike for a long time. Could the two be connected ?. Sorry to be such a numpty. Do I need a special tool to tighten the clip if I can move it back into position. The first pic is the right where there is no gap. Any help guidance would be much appreciated.

Looks like that has been the case for a good while. Carry on riding.

There is a special tool for these clips but unless you've got loads of cash to throw around I wouldn't bother. You can use pliers. Put the ends of the pliers on the two sticking out parts of the clip and squeeze them as if you were tightening it. The clip will disengage from itself and open up. Push the injector body home into the rubber and then do the clip up almost the same as undoing it. Have a good look at the clip and you will see how it locks onto itself. It's a bit hard to explain but there are YouTube vids of them being taken off and put back on again. I doubt that it's causing any vibration.

Ok thanks for this. Just to clarify about the vibration, I have checked the coils, replaced the plugs, disconnected the lambda sensors, checked the shaft drive. It's a weird one, and my resources are limited as the bike is in Fuerteventura. I will loosen the one behind it to give me more freedom of movement. Thanks for spending the time to reply. I appreciate it.
The bike has done 126k miles btw

An old pair of blunt / scrap side cutters can be ground to make the tool to remove and fit these clips.
I have used these for many years.

leaving that to get a leak and mess up the engine is ridiculous

Great thanks. Seems the best path of least resistance.
One thing I have noticed is that when I push my leg again the big fat black air intake when riding, and the bike exhaust pops, it pushes against my legbat the same time. I think that is what has made it loose. Also, my bike never vibrates when riding at night when the air is cooler...

Yes it will as the engine runs that will wobble and cause an induction leak

Not Sure if "the BOT's" tool will work I use a pair of Bahco water pump pliers and catch the two raised lumps as indicated in the circle and move the raised dome up and over the bump to lock it home

Nail/carpenter pliers are perfect for those clips. I’ve been using them for 20 years

Out of curiosity, wouldn't a large hose jubilee clip be much easier to use and replace this German manufacturers designed clip? :nenau

... I guess the only thing will be the BM one just about leaks, whereas most will vastly over tighten a (jubilee) worm drive clip and mess up the rubber

plus harder to come by decent narrow stainless ones...

BMW ones have "expansion" built into the clip

A worm drive / jubilee clip is tight and has no flex or give

Hey guys I did it with some plumbing pliers. They are positioned now. I'll see if they move again. The clip seems quite loose, so I might try and find a jubilee clip or something on my travels. All : Thanks for your help (seems so trivial now !)

Dont use a jubilee for the reasons above your post

Fair point, was just curious why they don't use a Jubilee clip, as most hose manufacturers swear by them.

Another good point, my curiosity, has been moved to now I know better, this is why I like this forum for good simple explanations, from people in the know..

Looks like I was wrong with using a Jubilee clip, perhaps best you find a suitable nail/carpenters tool like Steptoe on line #11 mentioned, he is the mighty knowledgeable one on this forum, others may dismiss this though. :D
