I'm aff tae the opticians the morn and I'm gauranteed to be wearin' the auld Gregories (or at least hae a prescription for them) when I come oot. I know masel' that auld age has caught up wi' me. Mind you, at 52 I cannae complain cause I've had really guid eyesight up until recently.

My vision's a wee bit blurry and I often feel a bit nauseous (sp) if I'm on the PC too long. I also ha'e probs readin' road signs clearly until I'm just aboot passed them :blast

Whit I dinnae ken is if I'm short sichtit or long sichtit (which is which?)

I bet I look a right twat (worse than usual) wi' the auld ByFukels on :augie

Do you get sexy spex? :nenau

I'm sure you'll look great in bins :D

As you get older you tend to become long-sighted.

I have had specs since I was 12 and have been short-sighted. Now, aged 62, I am heading towards long sight.

How do you find reading a book / newspaper ? I used to need my glasses to read at a normal distance but now I have to take them off to read.

If you have to bring something close to your eyes to see it clearly its Short Sight, if you have to hold it at arms length or so then its Long Sight.

There are other things that can affect your sight as well - so expect a retinal scan when you go to the Optician :thumb2

Ye were a wee bit short sighted when ye telt someone that BHT wis an ignorant cnut:augie

The road signs are a classic Ronnie, afore i got ma specs then contacts the signs were aye blurry especially when it was dark or poor light. Didnae realize what a diffrence it would make, to be honest its a bit scary when you look back at your driving/riding when your visions not perfect,a bit dangerous.

Plenty o specs wi sex appeal available, go for the ronnie barker look ,or thon gangster lad oot o Snatch:D

Too much time spent on this site then?:D:D

Suffered the same thing all of a sudden about 6 years ago, so when I was about 48. Now need reading glasses but I was lucky in that both eyes are about the same, so the cheap specs you can buy in Tesco and the like will do me at a pinch.

Hmmm there's a few style icons on this thread on which to model masel when I get a' gregoried up :thumb2

does that mean when you whir in yir 50's yeh dinnae need the gregory's :augie

I'm afraid not.

Distance vision and close vision are different - hence the need for bi-focal (or, these days, vari-focal) lenses.

Even though my close vision is changing I still can't see distant objects clearly without glasses.

Ronno - A Warning . . If you get vari-focal lenses, be prepared to trip over things as everything below waist height is out of focus. Going down stairs is 'interesting' when you first get them.

And riding at night in the rain when both your visor and specs are soaked in rain is no joke - I just raise the visor and rely on the specs to protect my eyes.

Same in cold weather when everything fogs up.

And finding a helmet that fits over the specs (or go for the John Lennon look :D )

The joys.
