I am considering a tuned 1100GS currently for sale on EBay, yellow one based in Esher Surrey. Has anyone tuned / chipped their 1100 and found it to have a negative impact on reliability or longevity of the engine. I'm in no hurry to buy so happy to walk away and wait for a standard one if that's the general opinion. Any thoughts / advice would be gratefully received.
Thanks
Mark

My 1150's chipped etc. and only negative effect is slight increase in fuel consumption. 2 of my previous 1150s were also chipped with no long term problems.

A lot of the chips, tuning boxes etc fitted to 1100s are there to get rid of lower RPM surging and do not necessarily mean that the bike has been owned by a "boy racer" obviously the usual caveats apply but I would not be put off.
Happy hunting.

Without trying to be a smart ar*e etc it depends on what they mean by tuning.
Ask what they have done

Accelerator module - just a resistor on the AFM that makes the engine think the air is colder than what it is - therefore the ECU dumps more fuel into the mixture. If the mixture is too rich it will wash the cylinder bores and cause excessive wear. However this is most unlikely and some people on here advocate their use.
Power Commander etc - if done properly can make an improvement and should not cause ant adverse wear. It is smoothing out the fuel mixture by adding / subtracting fuel at predetermined points.
A really good setup will have a separate map for each cylinder.

Personally I would want to see the Air/Fuel mixture map and the Torque map to see what has been done.

He's claiming 90bhp.

That is utter bo**ocks

std was about 78bhp

To get that increase you would need to do more than just the chip.

Remember bhp at 8000 rpm is worthless. - how often are you screaming the bike up there.

Lower torque at approx 2500 - 4000 rpm is much more useful in the real world

Fastest 1100GS i've ever had was bog standard. Used it as a loan bike. Faster than any of the so called "tuned" bikes i've ever ridden.

Every customer who rode it mentioned how fast it was - but it only did 120 miles on a tank of fuel. So any gain you'd made was lost because you had to fill up twice as often :D

I remember that one! :D

Yeah what steppers says I had a couple that did stupid mpg but were as fast as fook

Fecking around with the TPS can make them do that ! :D

You want to go fast, get a fireplace/R1/cbrrr or something.

Buy a stock one then do what you want to it. At least you know what' what then:thumb2

Oh no it isn't...

So in real life it wasn't tuned, chipped or anything else... just had the Remus fitted. It felt a whole lot faster, fun and more responsive than my 1150RT though - so that's why I bought it.

Pick it up on Tuesday and may keep the RT as well but it's good to be back on a GS.

Cheers
Mike

PS It comes with the original zorst - we'll see how irritated I get by the noise of the Remus. :eek
