Hi Folks, myself and a mate are going over next Wed to do the Banbury Run on Sunday.
We're staying in Betws-y-Coed Wed night after we come off the ferry. The next day is a leisure day and we'd like to do a run on our bikes (1916 Sunbeam and 1922 Beardmore).
Any suggestions for a 50 to 80 mile route along leisurely roads would be appreciated (start and finish same location).

Waiting in anticipation for suggestions from the locals with superior knowledge. :thumb:thumb

Thanks

We'll keep a welcome ... :beerjug:

Betws y Coed > Dolwyddelan > Blaenau Ffestiniog > Maentwrog > Penrhyndeudraeth > Portmadog > Tremadog > Eric's Cafe > Beddgelert > Capel Curig > Betws y Coed

I'll do a google map later today if you want better details

Have a great ride!

Thanks for the suggestion. Our max speed is about 35mph. Is the road good for this? Approx how many miles?

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Route is about 50 miles
Fuel stops at Betws y Coed, Penrhyndeudraeth, Porthmadog
*no fuel at Blaenau Ffestiniog*

Betws > Blaenau A470 : wide two lane road with good views and nice open bends. Good views on the Crimea Pass.
Roundabout in Blaenau turn right A496 Maentwrog / Porthmadog. Just after the Rehau factory there is turn right to TanyGrisiau - nice little cafe here. Good two lane for most of way, sweeping descent and narrows but plenty of places for faster vehicles to pass.
Maentwrog A496 > A487 Fuel at Penrhyndeudraeth and then over the Cob into Porthmadog. Ffestiniog Railway starts here.
Through PorthMadog, into Tremadog square, turn right on A498. Eric's Cafe on the right after about 2-3 miles. Road becomes narrower and more windy and tree lined, with lots of Rhododendrons as you enter the Aberglaslyn Pass. You won't be the slowest up here due to coaches and grockles goimng 'Oh' and 'Ah'!
Beddgelert has an ice cream shop on the left after Royal Goat Hotel, and toilets off right at the bridge.
Turn right over bridge (tight) continuing A498 for Nant Gwynant. Wider road with good passing places and many stray sheep. Nice cafe in the old chapel at Nant Gwynant (left with parking for m/cycles). Car parking further on right has toilets.
Road becomes narrower until you pass Llyn Gwynant (left) and start to climb Nant Gwynant Pass. Very narrow with trees either side. In most cases two cars can pass with care. Opens at top of pass, then past Pen y Gwryd Hotel - worth a pint to see the Everest signatures and memorabilia - then good wide roads and views to Capel Curig.
Capel Curig turn right on A5 - mostly good roads, but few passing places, but several lay-bys on left if you feel the need to let the ar***oles past.
Arrive at Betws y Coed!

Have a great time - on a sunny day this is a splendid ride with great views over the mountains, a couple of lakes, a bit of sea, trees and Rhododendrons, and cafes pubs and ice creams.
