Apple Mac+Virtual PC+Quest
Has anyone done this or have any advice...

I Have a Garmin Quest
I am connecting it to an Apple G4 powerbook running Virtual PC 7 with Windows XP
I have succesfully installed Mapsource and the drivers from the GPS via USB

However I cannot get it to show as a connected device when in Mapsource.
Yes, it is connected and yes, it is switched on.

I have followed the steps in the Garmin FAQs (1. Go to the Device Manager. In Windows 98SE and ME, click on START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL. Then double-click on SYSTEM, then DEVICE MANAGER. For Windows XP and Windows 2000, (XP) Click START/CONTROL PANEL (2000) START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL. Then double-click on SYSTEM, then HARDWARE, then DEVICE MANAGER.) and I can see the drivers and it says all is well.

I get a message about changing the interface settings on the GPS to ‘Garmin’ or ‘Host” but I cannot find any such settings on the Quest.

Anybody know the answers? Please?

Looks like a no, no!

It turns out Virtual PC doesn't work with most USB devices including all Garmin products.

Mac Users beware!!!!!

My Garmin GPS V connects quite happily with VPC 7.02 on both my Macs running 10.4.3 using a serial to USB cable. You have you enable USB devices every time you load VPC by using the menu PC>PC Settings or Apple+T keys, in addition I had to install updated drivers for the USB-Serial cable after updating to Tiger.

Hope this is of use.

Another Mac and Quest user here.
How do I get Virtual PC to work? I know it's in here somewhere but I can't remember where I saw it.

Yes this is of use. I think I'm going to return VPC and buy a cheap PC laptop.

BUT.

Are you saying that if a buy a serial cable to work with the Quest (it doesn't come with one), that plugs into a another cable that converts it back to USB then it should work?

Shall I try Maplins today for such thing?

I have no idea if that would work, does the Quest have a serial output?
The GPS V is serial only and Mac's aren't fitted with them so use of the adapter is the only way.
I was replying to your message

In my experience VPC 7.02 does work with USB devices, printers, cameras etc and with Garmin GPS units that I have used, but I have not used a Quest so it might be a problem with that unit.
