Visa types?

If one travels through a country entering one side and out the other in a reasonable amount of time, I would assume to be transiting.

Or is it still classed as touring?

Is there such a thing as a transit visa for a non-commercial activity and would it be applicable to the above?

Are there tourist and transit visas?
