Visit Air Ambulance Base RAF Cosford 23 May 26

Hi All

As mentioned on another thread I’m happy to arrange another AA visit.

Much same as Tatenhill last year, I’m sure someone will link to visit and put pics up.

General outline;

RV at various points.

All then RV coffee at RAF Cosford Museum, say 1100.

Visit Base, say 1200 to 1400.

Back home for tea and medals.

I’ll need to clear with charity, I’ll make sure I’m not on duty so I can ‘visit’ as well.

Should be ok for pics with aircraft, (There are 2 based there, HELIMED 03 and HELIMED 09, both shiny new Airbus H145s)

I’ll be there to bluff you about the aircraft, and why L=Cl 1/2 R V2 S is important shit

I’m sure the Paramedics will pitch in if folk have questions.

Anyway a show of numbers would be handy……..

If a mod or other duty adult could re post on say Peak District, West Midlands that would be helpful.

Nice aircraft those H145’s, Out of all the aircraft I am type’d on, my favourite is Airbus. My first type course on the AS365N was at Aerospatiale’s manufacturing site in Marignane Marseille, really enjoyed that 10 weeks. The lunch break was two hours long and included wine with your meal

Indeed, when the sim broke I had to endure 7 weeks in Stavangar in a 5 star hotel, to do about 3 days work

Here’s me with the very first U.K. air ambulance when I was with Bond helicopters, taken at Buxton around 1988.
We were promoting the aircraft to Margaret Thatchers Conservative Party to try and achieve funding for the project. Needless to say the funding didn’t happen. The Bolkow DB105 was the Ferrari of the skies in its day, the Bond twins (Mike and Geoff) had the most flying hours on type and could perform manoeuvre’s like no other’s.

It’s very sad that Bond aren’t still running us.

People who understand aviation, and understand the funky stuff we do.

Good workhorse the 105, good ani tank machine with HOT missiles too.

Was doing sterling work until very recently in Scotland at SCAA.

Plus I can say I’ve flown a Messerschmitt…… sort of

I’ve spoken to unit and we should be able to book the terrace overlooking the aircraft for a brew and chat.

I’ve emailed the charity boss to confirm she’s ok with it, but I’m sure it’ll be fine.

Was that in Tango Charlie? I worked on the Visiting Aircraft Section at RAF Valley 79 to 83 and had many trips out to Bardsey Island and the Skerries with you guys, quite often with Mark or Mike at the controls.
