....Pombal. Only 1.5 hrs from me via the mountain express (DR800)

Nice place, nice people, shame about the bikes all being computerised, as they all are these days, service guy owns 5 Buells, so we had a lot to talk about. :D
I told him I ride my X1 in the mountains of the badlands where I live, because there are no laws essentially and he told me it was a terrible thing. that I do. :D

At least I know I can now get original oils for it, I like the HD stuff, it has served me well.

I am so remote, so I need to get an HD I can look after, they totally got that, so took my number in case anything comes up that they cannot put in the shop....HD`s a re few and far between here and mostly in the far south for the poseurs.

So we shall see what develops, but I didn`t feel any love for the current crop, apart from the new sportster thing with the single seat and meaty back wheel, I quite liked that, but without the electronics please.

It was the first time I had seen a Pan Euro or whatever it is called, made my DR800 look pretty and that takes some doing!

I have to say it was nice to go into an HD dealer and not feel as though I was in a clothes shop with a couple of motorbikes in it!

They don`t do bullshit really here....Just a smidgen.

What're looking for and how much would it cost to ship it there? These are just the ones for sale on Facebook within 100 miles from me.

I was just trying to find the love again...I failed!

I really thought I would have a "twitch" and feel like having one again, but the computers in the new ones is a big no from me, as was demonstrated by a customer having his bike worked on and having to be rebooted! That is not for me.

The older bikes they had in stock just didn`t do it either, despite having a softail deluxe, that was pretty close to what I had...Just no love at all.

I guess it was just an idea that I had, or I have yet to find a 1690 Fat Boy iwth a 200 rear tyre in black!

Just pick up a rubber mount Sportster. They're simple bikes, easy to work on, cheap, and there are any number of versions such as pimped out chrome ones, Roadsters, Lows, whatever.

I thought this was fitting parked beside a row of 1950's era tractors yesterday.

I do like the sportsters, unfortunately they are just too small for me, but probably the best off the shelf Harley ever made in all their guises.

Yes I was really cramped on this one, not because it is a small motorcycle, heck it has a 60" wheelbase and weighs almost 600 pounds. The problem for me was the rider's bucket in the stock seat positioned me way too low and forward. An aftermarket seat moved me up just over 2" and back 2 1/2". Seat height is about 31" now which is fine for me at 5-11" with 32" inseam.

Nahhhh, I am done with them, can`t find the love anymore....Just an outmoded piece of equipment that does everything worse than the Jap stuff and the Jap stuff looks shite.

I shall just have to make do with my rotorvator and in the sound knowledge that I am ploughing the land for food....My tractor takes care of everything else.

Just need a good 6X6 truck to rip the shit out of the mountain in the coming years....I guess I get my kicks in different places now.

OK, but just what would you do with a 6x6 truck?

You DO have an ATV or side by side, right?

I restored a Diamond Reo....Deuce and a half? M35 I think it was.
Ex US army...Vietnam War era....I found out that they didn`t bring any back from Vietnam, yet when I stripped the paint back on mine, it had all the insignia from that period!

It was in a field for 10 years, so needed a bit of work, god only knows where the pictures went to!
My wife and I spent a fair while stripping it all back to metal, reconditioning, painting and the Continental multi fuel engine was a peach, straight thru exhaust from the turbo, so it was a "whistler"
Sounded like a helicopter landing...So sweet to hear, made people stop and stare!
Hard top, which was rare and a front winch from the PTO

Germany, that was where it came from as I recall.

I got some chassis plates made up, stamped the chassis myself using truck chassis stamps and used numbers that were acceptable of the time before the Vietnam War and had it registered as 1957, so I could drive it on a car license...Any Heavy vehicle registered before 1960 in the UK could be driven on a car license, it was before I got my heavy vehicle license.

So I circumvented the system in the UK, the vehicle was manufactured 1970....So for the Vietnam conflict....I forget who manufactured it, as they were all doing them at that time....Possibly White Trucks.

Which brings me back to what I would do with a 6X6 truck....Pull trees, off road, have fun, look at it, listen to it, maintain it and enjoy it and help neighbours with stuff the same as I would do....I cannot ever justify it in a logical and sane mind, but that mind will never be mine, that mind be for the grown ups and not for me. (y) :D

Fair enough, you like big, old trucks.
