Tomorrow.

I’m using my usual carefree, forget planning approach which should take me north of Inverness but it might not if I get sidetracked and veer off west in search of quiet roads.

Wild camping is the way forward so I’ll just buy a couple of cans and something easy to cook then find a quiet spot.

Obviously it’s going to rain so I’ve just given my riding kit a good spray with DWR to try and minimise taking waterlogged gear near dry clothes :beerjug:

Have fun! :thumb2 Take a small shovel! :green gri

Have you ever tried burning a fresh turd? :nenau

Ready to go. Motorway avoidance is probably a good idea on a 500 single, not least one designed primarily for racing

Hope you enjoy it Andy.
I think you'll be disappointed with the wild camping though.
A lot of areas are now covered in human shit, toilet paper, litter and abandoned camping gear.

After riding through 3 hours of low cloud alternating with heavy rain I decided to go for the easy option so I’m in the old favourite commonly known as the Red Squirrel in Glencoe.

The downside is that I now feel obligated to walk to the Clachaig for a couple of beers 🍺

Car driving morons.
This is something motorcyclists would 99% never do.

BTW, enjoy your trip Andy.:beerjug:

Glen Etive was on my list of possible places to look at so I’m glad I rode past it.

You know what you’re going to get at the Red Squirrel and right now I’m sat in the Clachaig with a pint of Wildcat as a starter. They’ve always had a good choice of beers and they’ve got a 6% one from Loch Lomond brewery which will be sampled later 🍺

For those with an iron constitution they also have a good choice of the local tipple plus they make their own gin so even though I can’t stand Scotch I might be tempted by a cheeky little G&T.

How Glen Etive was left at the weekend, my piss is so boiled it's near setting me on fire.

Unbelievable. They obviously earn far too much money, that black box is about £35, how much for one of those camping chairs? The sleeping foam mats.... £00s just left lying around. Not only do they not value their surroundings, they don't value anything by the look of it... but then they will think people who are thrifty are 'rolling in it' or 'loaded'.

How have we, as a society, allowed this to happen? Libertarian values, lack of meaningful discipline, lack of respect - and it must have been tolerated for it to reach these levels.

I would take a guess that they were of festival going age, I'd say anything from 20-40. That's what happens at festivals nowadays, no one takes anything home, just dump it at their feet, I'm far too miserable to do that.

I’m not really surprised. The law permits wild camping so you’ll always get a group who decide to pop into Halfords, buy a cheap tent & sleeping bag each and bugger off to do drugs/alcohol. It’s what’s called growing up and to a degree we all bent the rules but you’re less likely to spend a night in the cells these days so the limits can be pushed a bit more.

I’m not condoning it but I know I went as close to the limit as I could and in many ways we had more manoeuvring room when I was younger.

Edit: by manoeuvring room I mean we had far more places we could ride off road with no fear of being nicked.

Heard similar reports from friends in St. Fillans, wild camping leaving loads of shit everywhere.... people really take the piss....

Max fine for littering is £2,500.
A few high profile court cases with heavy fines would put a stop to it.

The problem with that is people don't litter if they think someone can see them, much like the shitting going on outside oop north, you won't do it if someone is watching.

Anyway, I’m done with Scotland. I decided the weather looked crap for the next few days and took a scenic route south so I’ve stopped for a last fill up at Scotch Corner before the 180 miles of A1 boredom to home.

It was a bit shorter than I’d have liked but the idea of packing up a wet tent every morning has zero appeal.
