This is a great idea, a neat, inexpensive and highly effective ICE (In Case of Emergency) solution for motorcyclists - ID cards with family contact info and essential medical info for use by the emergency services......inc helmet 'tags' so that the medical services know to look for the Rider ID card (3M special adhesive appoved/safe to use on helmets;-)

....I'm nothing to do with the company other than having set up the FB page for them.

Nobody any thoughts on this or other ICE (In Case of Emergency) ID/info systems?

It's been discussed loads of times in the B&B.

My next door neighbour is a consultant battlefield trauma nurse at the QE in Birmingham. He attends RTAs and deals with the casualties from Afghanistan so he's pretty well placed to comment. He says he ignores these and all the other stuff at the roadside ;)

Probably a bit like Military medics, blood group tattoos means nothing and only tags will do, but in civi street I doubt any Doc will trust what he reads off some persons tags or what the said biker has stencilled onto his bike.

Yes there's quite a few different systems available.........a benefit discussions like this is making people aware of ICE (In Case of Emergency) and that there are a number of different ID/info 'systems' out there...........then it's personal choice as to what if anything you chose to do.

I have a 'traditional' set of dog tags I've used for years as well with blood group, 'no allergies' and a contact number on..........but I do like the hi-vis 'stickers' the RiderID system uses and the ID/info cards for even more info.

....just like any 'insurance' you hope you don't ever need it but in the worse case scenario certain info available to the emergency services could make a big difference.

Oops, should have sought out an existing discussion maybe

Thanks for that info from your neighbour, very interesting! I'd be interested to know if that's his personal view i.e. no guidance/instructions from his NHS Dept/PCT or whomever or an official directive (if so from?)....thanks.

I flagged that up with VITAL ID and got this reply....

..... the MC ID was designed with the input of a senior Orthopaedic Surgeon and Colonel in the Army. He also has lots of experience of working in a major A&E Dept. and is a keen biker. He is supportive and likes the product.

The fact that the IAM like our product, and we have the support of the bmf and AAA suggests that our ID will be a valuable additional safety tool for bikers.
