Hello,
out of a job 'n thinking of doing a spot of volunteer work.
as a Blood Runner / Motorbike Rider in Galway.
it says:
quote: "All volunteers must provide copy of their driving licence and also pass the RoSPA Bike training course."
what is this RoSPA lark?
[thought we were in the Republic]
anyone here doing/done this kind of course?
thanx
good day best regards
Josey

Why type over 250 characters to ask a question when you only needed to type 5 into a Google Search?

You're spot on there JayC, what the hell was he thinking posting a question about bikes on a bike forum, I don't know why 90% of the people post here when they could ask Mr.Google and maybe join him for a spin some day.

Josey, I've no idea about RoSPA but the lads'll be along shortly and I'll know about it then. Fair play t'ya for the Volunteering.

Do you have any idea what bike Mr Google rides? I just did a search but nothing coming up :nenau

Oh , and yes indeedy, well done for volunteering Josey! :clap

thanking you.
however, what has your kind reply got to do with Ireland?
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents

for example, here is a faq from the Rospa web thingy:

What are Baltic amber beads?
Baltic amber contains between three and eight per cent succinic acid...........

the rospa web site doesn't boolean searches, i.e all kinds of stuff not concerning motor bikes shows up when searching the site.

ah why bother?

Yes - the only 'Royal' things we have here are a 'Royal' county and one that's apparently a 'Kingdom'. :D
The reason RoSPA is referred to is that it's the 'Industry standard' for Advanced Riding in U.K. and Ireland.

RoSPA website is woeful.
Also - RoSPA dont do "training courses".
They conduct tests in advanced riding.
So to pass the test (i'm trying to provide clear, if blunt answers here)
~ get a copy of "roadcraft"
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Motorcycle-...143X/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1347440852&sr=8-2
~ absorb as much as possible, THEN get a RoSPA approved Instructor to take a look at you.
~ From there - practice, practice, practice - get training, then repeat til ready. :P
~ then apply to RoSPA to do the exam.
graded Bronze, Silver and Gold. - you'll need a Silver at least.

and Roberts yer mothers brother. :thumb

.... or you can just PM me. :blast
Good Luck :)
~~
Og,
coincidentally a RoSPA approved instructor. :augie :D

thanx for the help

http://www.rospa.com/faqs/detail.aspx?faq=440 RoSPA can help – the exceptionally popular and much sought-after accreditation scheme offers organisations the opportunity to demonstrate that their courses adhere to an accepted standard. This scheme offers a professional assessment of driver training courses and ........

I'm not an ORG yet, thanx JayC for the linky.
Also thanx for the info from Ogmios.
Seems a bit of a hurdle, a good few hoops to jump through, to get Ogmios' blessings, to ferry a bit of stuff around Galway.
However reading police manuals can't be a waste of time, it can only lead to good things, eyh?

The alternative is 'befriending', but I guess that opens another kettle o fish.

'Roadcraft' book;
seriously - the cheapest "training" you can buy and the best reference material for Road Riding.
Why pay me, or ANYone, to talk theory at the roadside when you can do it for the cost of the book? :nenau
the test;
(took me an age - that website is often revised and so far NEVER improved! )
look here;
http://www.roadar.org/riders/info/motcycle-test-guide-2011.pdf
'Befriending' - i've heard mixed reports. :augie

ANYhow,
if i can help in any way - let me know - phone call costs little and can clear up a lot of 'vagaries'*. i will be blunt and practical as my method is absolute Real World - day glo, pipe, slippers and holier-than-thou is NOT an essential part of it! ;)

*i love that word. :pullface :D

I've done the Rospa myself, a great piece of training!!

I reccomend you give either of these guys a ring, both guys will tell you all you need to know about going about the test, and also, both have the ability to train you and Coburns a tester himself

Aidan Sheehan - 0862425073

or Jonathan Coburn - 0877903717

Nothing that is worth while doing is easy or quick. Although I don't have RoSPA I can vouch for Ogmios and Jonathon both of which I used in learning to ride motorcycles and successfully passing my test.
You have nothing to loose and so much you could give.

I drive for a Volunteer Now , we drive kids that are in foster care or in danger . It's a great way to help out and use up that time you have . Went through all police checks . Having a great time , well worth it .
