Vosges..... If JB says it’s good, then it must be

I came across the camp by chance, looking down on it from the road that runs above. At the time I had no idea what it was, only afterwards did I read about it.

The film, ‘The names of the 86’ (mentioned in JB’s link) was shown, if I remember correctly, on the BBC a while ago. Or at least a documentary on the same subject.

"106-year-old Boris Pahor, believed to be the oldest living survivor of a Nazi concentration camp, talks about life and death at Natzweiler, where almost half the prisoners died."

We looked down on it and then went to take a closer look, but not enough time for a proper visit

Thank you. I couldn’t remember the name of it.

some nice routes there. I have tootled around the Voseges several times and suspect I havent really scratched the surface of whats available, in my own defence I usually pass through on my way to and Switzerland, so don't often have more than a day to play, I usually stay here should anyone need a place to look at .

I stayed at Bussang for a coupe of days. It's down in a quarry with no view and a bit "bikermates" for me. I'm more into the type of place posted above by Arsey or this place looking across Munster to the Petit Ballon https://www.hotel-panorama-alsace.com/en/ - half board was excellent

I had one night at Bussang, that was enough

Ok place for a transit stop, not for a week's stay

There are some lovely towns a villages in Vosges and Alsace, but there are some properly shit ones too. Many are dilapidated ex-mining towns and villages.

That’s true enough

Some towns are better than others

Hotel du Bussang is a lovely majestic building (with some interesting WW2 history) and well set up for bikers - but a bit budget

I gather it has some new owners now, so may be better

Wapping thanks for these Nav threads - reminds you that there is a world out there during lockdown

Hotels are a very personal thing.

Some bods will prefer to stay somewhere that’s owned by Brits, operated as a B&B. Others want something ‘local’.

Some don’t mind if the owner and staff speak mostly or entirely ‘foreign’. Others cannot be doing with it, at all.

Some want chain type, homogeneous hotels. Some do not.

Some would prefer somewhere only recommended on UKGSer.

Lots want to be assured of ‘safe’ parking. Others are happy to look at what is available and use whatever is around, if it suits them to do so and if they judge it ‘safe’.

Lots want the owner and staff to be assured as ‘Biker friendly’. Others are happy to anticipate that mist owners probably won’t raise a sawn-off in their direction on arrival.

Some want to stay outside of villages or towns. Some want exactly the reverse. Some don’t mind, as long as the hotel suits them.

Some want bikermates (a good laugh) to chill with and a ZZ Top homage band in the evening / through to the middle of the night. Some do not.

Some balk at anything more than euro 30 a night, whilst some others don’t mind north of 100, if it suits them.

Either way, there are enough hotels and places in the world to suit everyone.

Agreed, unless you want chicken and chips every night....

Not true, A mate and I stayed there for 5 nights a few years ago and the meals were great and varied, cooked by Marks wife from fresh ingredients.
Very friendly and welcoming place to stay and explore the region.

I sometimes think some of you lot just delight in your "snobishness"

Chicken and chips
Ham and chips
Ribs and chips
Fish and chips
Sausage and chips.....

Sounds lovely and so great to get into the local culture.....:-)

We stayed there in 2015 on the way to RDGA.
It’s wasn’t my trip to plan and we all shared rooms. We were in a triple.
Never again.
I fucking hate sharing rooms.
The Hotel Du Bussang was fine for one night.
Loads of beer, cheap red wine and a bowl of soup, chicken and chips then apple pie and ice cream.

The place was packed with bikers, mainly Dutch and German.
Like I say, it was fine for one night and good if you’re on a budget, like sharing and don’t eat foreign muck.
Certainly not the place to take anyone special, unless you want to only have rowdy bikermates on every table...

Compare and contrast to somewhere like the Hotel De Marronnier in Rencurel.Similar set up but chalk and cheese.
