Just picked this up from the Scottish thread, see details here http://www.vulcantothesky.org/news/675/82/V-Force-Tour-times.html looks like the big delta wing will be around the area early aftie for any interested. Could be an easy win on a bike in the area even if you don't have time for a museum visit (me I suspect).
I assume it wll be going overhead at the very least, but if funded maybe they'll have some form of 'improved' flight show/climb/thingy
Handy if you live under the route - I guess Elvington Scarborough Sunderland misses Thirsk - often the old birds come up the just right of the A19 for easy navigation (well I assume) but on this occassion we are probably off path.
At 13.02 this afternoon just as Rossi crossed the start and finish line on the first lap, the Vulcan flew directly over where I live. What a sight and sound.
It reminded me of when I was at school in the 60's, the lessons had to stop every 15 minutes due to the noise from the engines as they took off and came in to land at Finningley.
Decided we just had to make a trip to the coast for possibly a final reminder of the sights and sounds of the big delta bird - talking Vulcan jet here, before you leap to outragoeus sea-side postcard territory Scarburoo was hot sunny busy and dandy for Armed Forces Day.
Arrived with 25 mins spare - just enough time for Bev to queue for ladies before finding a spot on the seawall. Vulcan was right on time.
Bev has been credited with having the eyes of a 'sh*thouse sewer rat' and lived up to it spotting a wide speck over Flamborough in far far distance, without use of binos.
Undoubtably the sight and sound of Britain This wasn't the one they said was coming (well, I thought it was aD-Day striped one). No expert, but I believe the clipped wing tips are for low level, high speed, work. Sounded pesky, looked fan-bloody-tastic (prefer the round wing tips mind)
HM Coatguard did a display (Andy Hird, still envolved - was it you?)
Last time they had the old Sea-king, this time the far less lovely (unless you are being rescued in which case lovely red and white) new thing. Great examples of winch work
Wasn't expecting too much, but actually outrageous fun and brilliant! loved it.
If anyone has a Gypsy Moth with rigging Bev has always wanted a go not sure you can get insurance on such an old bird she says - what could she mean? I'm sure they are entirely air-worthy
