I've been doing an insane amount of research on boots for my up-coming 5 month trip through Africa. Cost is a factor, but boot selection is something I don't want to get wrong.

Now I'm not going to ask you all what the best boot is, there are enough of those threads out there :blagblah, all I'm asking is if anyone knows this boot:

I haven't found anything too negative about this boot, but I'm interested in hearing if anyone knows otherwise.

Thanks!

Sorry but never seen them :nenau

I opted for the Sidi Adventure boot and love them though they are more expensive than the above.

I've got a pair!

Bought a pair of these a few months ago from Azcari in Dorking - having broken my foot I thought I'd better get a sturdier pair of boots.

I would say, despite the 'look' they don't offer any of the protection of a proper pair of off-road biased boots. They are quite sturdy, and appear well made (I guess only time will tell) and they are very comfortable - the straps do have a really good range of adjustment.

In terms of protection, they do not have any of the plastic plates or bracing you would normally expect to see on boots like this.

They're a good pair of boots for the price - but not if you want good protection.

i also got a pair

id say these offer a good level of protection wayed against full on motocross boots these are designed to be able to walk around in ...i wouldnt take em to Africa they are too warm but great boots i love mine

Do you need competition motorcross boots? Probably not for you trip.

I have just bought a pair from your proposed supplier and am completely happy after a week of so. They are just starting to break-in, and I recommend that you get whichever boots you want in advance and break them in before you go: you don't want blisters on your feet and have to test your endurance.

Mine have been used for a few hundred miles thus far and I've not had any blisters or rubbing, and in terms of being overly warm for Africa, I don't know but I wouldn't discount them for what you're doing.

Good Luck. :thumb

Thanks for the replies.

The trip starts in mid-October so I intend to purchase the boots soon for the all important breaking-in.

The reason I'm considering these boots is because they appear to be comfortable to walk around in, which is not possible in most MX-style boots. Not that I'm intending to walk around in them, but it I'll be living in these things for 5 months, so they need to be comfortable. The general feedback I'm getting from you guys is that this is not the sturdiest of boots, but it sounds well made, nonetheless.

My shortlist so far (not in any order):
W2 Adventure
Altberg Hoggs
Sidi Adventure - bit pricey
BMW Santiagos

A lot of people wax lyrical about Altbergs, but the laces put me off.

I would say they are definitely very comfortable for walking around in - you can make them even more comfortable too by slacking off the straps a bit too.

I guess any boot is always going to be a trade-off between on-bike protection and off-bike comfort - where to strike that balance is up to personal choice I guess.
