Evening all. Last minute decision to take the wife on a trip from Worcestershire to Welsh Coast. Tomorrow…
Suggestions would be gratefully received, just some smooth twisties and a decent destination for fish and chips by the beach. It’ll be a day trip, thanks in advance.

Worcester to Aberystwyth following Google Maps looks half decent, 100 miles, 2hrs 36 mins, could have a coffee stop in Cross Gates, if you fancy some views and the weather is good you could follow the Elan Valley Road at Rhayader but the road is narrow.

With a nice return via mac loop

Ah yes- see the roads well. Google keeps trying to suggest alternatives but I reckon the blue is your original which looks interesting

Yep. Basically Worcester to Hundred House down to the remote phone booth and devils staircase (very small road two up) on to Aberystwyth (or Aberaeron if you prefer) then Devils Bridge and mountain road to Elan Valley (small but easy and lovely in the sun) back to Worcester.

I like the road to Rhayader and also the Elan Valley- hoping they won’t be awash with tin tents as I think there’s a consensus that is a great road. I like the loop suggested, taking in that and more- thanks appreciated

Mach Loop road is great as well and a proper 2 lane road.

If you good flight times you can see if anything’s scheduled to pass. Most viewpoints involve a trek up though.

Yeah, I think the Hundred House is executive flats now? We took the kids to the devils staircase last year and yes the roads from memory were decent.

Not sure but the road past it is lovely twisty
Couple of good campsites along it as well - not that it’s one of my first night bases from Cirencester to Wales on a Friday night!

Nice chip shop in the harbour at Aberaeron - go along the A44 to Rhayader, take the Aberystwyth Mountain Road through the Elan Valley to Cwmystwyth. Then cut across to Aberaeron via Ystrad Meurig. Return via Lampeter & Brecon.

I'm in Oswestry now and had a ride to Aberdovey. Found a decent chip shop there as well. https://goo.gl/maps/ih5wFdq8f9ogSaJs9
A44 to Crossgates, up to Newtown, Machynlleth then Aberdovey.

From Worcester you could take the A44 to Leominster, stay on it until Rhyader, then take the mountain road to Aberwristwatch. Coming back take fhe A44 as far as Penybont then turn left on the A448 towards Knighton. At Monaughty you can either stay on the A488 for Knighton and join the A49 north of Ludlow where you could come back over Clee hill through Cleobury then turn Right onto the B4202 through Clows Top to Abberly and pick up the A443 at Great Whitley or turn right onto the B4356 for Presteign then on towards Shobden on the B4362 coming out eventually at the A49 at Wooferton where yiu can then take the A456 to Newnham Bridge then take the A443 to Great Whitley then on to Worcerster.

Summary of all these posts.

From Worcester head west (any roads but probably via Aber Mountain Road)
Reach watery bit and eat in a place beginning with Aber
Head east on a different road (any road again)

Got to love wales for being beautiful and having great roads!

Unfortunately the weather looks very Welsh for you tomorrow!

It is though if you do go (It's supposed to piss down) be careful through Great Whitley and Newnham Bridge as the speed nazi van is often parked up in the 30 limits 😉

Google isn’t playing nice but this would be a good loop https://maps.app.goo.gl/ijXYXWs13Ea8uNGK7?g_st=ic
Elan Valley and the mountain road are well worth including

Yes- rode it 15 years ago and had a hoot- but couldn’t remember it’s name or where it was when I decided to go back. Turns out it was the Elan Valley Mountain road after all when I took a slight detour today…
