At 7.8 NKr/€ these rates look pretty expensive. Are these group rates and do they have individual rates if joining a pre organised group?

I was there many years ago:

Not all animals are dangerous and behind a fence.

Thanks Liv.

Some modern zoos are quite open. There is one in Ireland (near Cork?) where a lot of the animals are on artificial islands and separated from the others and the public by just water.

There is a very good themed zoo in Hanover Germany and has themed areas like the American Yukon Gold Rush and also a huge underwater salt water aquarium with an artificial grounded ship in it, etc. etc. But the animals are mostly behind fences or glass.

News from Langedrag!
Translated with Google:
''It costs £ 750, - pr. pers. to get to the wolves and lynx. We look
happy that there are two people before we start the wolf farm visits.
Wolf / lynx farm visits must be booked in advance. The visit starts at 15.30.''

And one more:
''It costs 750 - per. person to get to the wolves and lynx as. person.
The group is at maximum. 15 people and minimum 2. It should be pre-booked day
and number.

We go to the wolves 15:30 and lynx around 16:30. If there is ulvetur,
we go to the lynx 15:30.''

-Does it make sense?
Ask me, or Gro Saugerud at [email protected] , for more info.

It is expensive, but I would do it.
You can pat the wolves! And take pictures. :bounce1

Thanks Liv for the updated info.

You are right there, it IS (horrendously) expensive for a farm/zoo visit. I take it that is just an afternoon visit, not overnight stay, etc. Did you really mean £750, or did you mean to say NKr 750/head ?

Quick question unrelated to polar bears, etc.

Going on hols with Wohnmobile/Wobbly Box soon to Norway.

Can I use Credit/Debit Card to pay for petrol, food in supermarkets, etc. etc. or do I need cash?

(Unlike the UK, German shops are a bit reluctant to accept plastic and most places don't take Credit or Debit Cards, just EC Cards or cash). So what is the Norway situation?

Thanks for any advice

My first time in Norway in 2003 was touring with a bank manager friend of mine, he was really surprised how more advanced their card payment system was compared to the UK at that time. They even had chip and PIN in Norway before us, I didn't even know what the 'chip' part was then.....!

Seems that nearly everything is bought with a card of some sort in Scandanavia and Iceland these days.

I've always bought fuel with my business 'debit card' and in the remote fuel stations or after hours it's the only way to get fuel. The first 'unmanned fuel station I ever used was in Iceland and even the Icelanders weren't sure how to use them at the time but now they're everywhere.

I only really used cash in Norway at the 'smaller' hytter hut/campsites and road/ferry/tunnel tolls and used the debit/credit card for almost everything else.

It's still nice to have a bit of cash in your wallet though.

Enjoy Norway, it's a fantastic place.

To be sure, ask your bank if your card is ok in Norway.
Once I met a couple from some land in Europe (I can't remember which), and they could not use their cards everywhere.
I can't remebember if they could use the cards only for paying and not withdrawal in a minibank.
Ask your bank!

Just back Sunday night from Norway. No problems with cards (except when I used the wrong PIN and the ATM swallowed my card whole :blast)

Can use plastic pretty much anywhere, even on the ferries. None of the nonsense about not accepting Credit Cards that happens in Germany!!

Beautiful country, even in the rain and the Norwegians we met were all very helpful, but I don't know how Norwegians tolerate the costs of driving around, since I was told most have to drive quite a distance to work.
