A great Linux (I'm pretty sure it's also available for Mac and Windoze) CLI utility that will download iplayer content (including HD) and save it as an mp4, without the restrictions of the iplayer desktop. ie. You can keep the files for as long as you want. Plugins available for the other channels too.

Available from the usual repositories. Loads of info here.

have been using get_iplayer for ages now, just saw v2.80 is out but not in repository yet so have manually updated.
