Want to help me farkle my 800GS?

OK first parts installed, Adv Spec crash bars, Bash plate and rear luggage plate. Thanks Chris as people say the instructions are very simple to follow and it all seems real quality.:thumb

I am still on the lookout for some soft luggage, i like the Giant Loop stuff but it is a lot of cash - alternatives?

got some more ideas for next month but it will probobly have to be just the 600m service, barkbusters and a scotoiler. proper strapped after Xmas:eek:

I just need the snow and ice to bugger off so i can ride it!!

starting to look nice now mate, you mentioned stands. look further afield than the bmw one as it lets you service the rear end but you have to chock the front end up to do any work on it. bad design in my eyes. If your one for the looks of the bike a nice set of tkc's or karoo 2"t" tyres would set it off nice. keep the pics comming of the progress. i am enjoying this thread
 
I still think a headlight protector is REALLY important. I have a Ventura, not very expensive, could save you heaps of cash.

F800GS comes with Centerstand in Australia, but it does put too much weight on the front wheel, don't know if the alternatives (eg Touratech) are any better.

Beautiful weather in my part of Australia today, currently 20 c heading for 29 c!

Fully agree with the comment on headlight protector, have you seen the price of a replacement unit!!!! if your not planning on going offroad though they do take quite alot of light off your dipped beem. several types on the market and in the past found that the full polycarb type are a pain in the ass to keep clean or clear mud from. mesh type would be my preferance but thats just me.

If your thinking of doing some off roading/muddy stuff, then you might want to consider the fender extender to try and limit the amount of sh1te being kicked up and also the rear hugger type rear shock protection thingy.

Looks like you got the rest covered i.e. engine bars, etc, have you considered raising the handle bars? Im 6 foot and find for the limited green laning i have done, I have found the bars could do with lifting a tad, but of course that is my opinion and we are all different shapes and sizes.

My future plans for my 800 are raise the bars, put engine bars on - Adv-spec probably and some knobblies on. And HIDS are a must:thumb

How about some handguards ? I've got the BMW ones and more than pleased :thumb2
It will save you lots of £ in case of a slow / Stationary off and will keep your hands warmer ...

I agree about having some hand gaurds but my experience of the bmw ones on the 800 isnt positive, im sure they will do their stuff if I have an off whilst green laning but as far as keeping hands warm I think they are crap:(

I have put the extenders so I can lower them, in an attempt to stop the draughts going up my arms from below, but I have to lower them so much that the draught goes over the top instead and up my arms. I didnt have this with the 1150 or the gaurds on my old KLX:nenau

I've heard that the 1200 hand gaurds fit and do a better job, maybe thats the way forward:nenau Dont know how good the TT ones are.

If I had been starting from Scratch I would have gone for the Barkbuster "Storm" handguards. http://www.adventure-spec.com/brands/barkbusters/
 
well I put the Adventure-spec crash bars and Touratech handguards through their paces again today.

I was engine braking on a 14% incline when the bike lost traction. It started sliding and whilst I was able to control the slide and the positioning of the bike what I saw at the bottom of the hill troubled me. namely, two cars, two people, one dog, a river and a concrete wall with metal crash barrier. So i decided to lay the beast down and watch as the lights disappeared into the blackness. :augie

My UFO body armour worked a treat although my Hein Gericke hipprotec was not so good as I'm feeling the bruises now. I also ripped my Klim jacket. Ah well. It was worth it for such a top day out :thumb2

I also have the BMW standard guards, I do not think the spoiler is that big on them to direct that cold wind off of the knuckles (where the heated grips do not reach) I think TT used to do a larger spoilers/wind deflector to fit the standard BMW. I dont think they do now :nenau

Not sure about the 1200's fitting and if theres improvement :nenau

If I rode my bike every day in the cold or went on a long cold adventure I would go for the mufflers I would get over the fact that they remind me of my grannies shopping trolley and enjoy the snug warmth with toast like hands, and hopefully knuckles :thumb

Thanks again guys, as for the handguards i am definately going for the barkbusters. i like the way they look and anyone with a set dont seem to have a bad word to say.

Thanks for your input Ducksbane, i take it you think i should get a headlight protector;). I will see if the finances can do that next month also.

Richie, im 6 ft and i have thought about the raisers, my problem is that i have hadd my bike approaching 3 weeks now, no actually 4 weeks and there has been snow and ice on my road for about 4 weeks, so i have a brand new bike in my garage that i have not even ridden out of my drive!! so until i get on it i wont know what it rides like.:(:(

My two main questions at the minute are who has used the Giant Loop Great Basin soft luggage and what do you think. also does anyone use the Touratech screen extender, im trying to decide whether to go for that so i can take it of when i want, or go for a full aftermarket screen and leave it on permenantly.

I have also asked Bem for a tool tube but no reply yet :nenau

went to fire mine up yesterday and the ignition wouldnt turn:eek: Im hoping its just frozen:blast but im fearing the worste as the bike is kept in a garage:blast

The giant loop on ADVrider gets a good write up:thumb2 never tried it myself but looks good to me
