Thanks Fireman, just found something else to put on the yellow machine! Some interesting sites here!

1200 h-guards

the handguards i am definately going for the barkbusters. i like the way they look and anyone with a set dont seem to have a bad word to say.

FYI - I put some used 2007 1200gs handguards onto my 800 and they fit fine. Much bigger protection area than std 80 ones, so good for bad weather/cold. Also oretty strong altho' not actually dropped on them yet (tempting fate).

I fitted the '08 on hand guards with the larger deflector to my F8GS.

A key difference to the darkbuster ones, is that they are not as 'impact resistant' (imo - i've not tried the darbusters) as they don't have the metal bar. When i rolled over on the Ridgeway, the guard flexed and broke the clutch lever. I think their main purpose is to protect from wind/twigs, but not provide protection in an impact.

They did fit straight out of the packet with the F8 bar ends - with a little tinkering...

If your still farkling that gs then here is another good site, italian version of touratech but a little cheaper, at the top of the page is a small usa flag, click it and all the items are discribed in english. check out the stella seats. may have to ivest in one myself.

Enjoy

Had:) my:) first:) proper:) ride:) on:) my:) new:) bike:) today:)......and i luvs it.

Changed my mind about what i need for next month though. the screen is absolute dog shit!!! My LC4 had more wind protection.

Is it worth getting the screen extension or is it better to go for a full aftermarket piece? the full force of the wind was hitting my 6ft frame around the neck area.

At the end of the day you get what you pay for. i went for the lower end price range and opted for the metal mule screen. At 5.10 it keeps the wind and rain off just fine and at the ton mark on the motorway there was no flex
paid £79 quid, one down point was the trim around the edge, left it off in the end. Here is a link

cases

Hallo , if you wish to have some good cases then get the Vario cases from BMW they are water proof, and if you don,t need to much room then they are not wider then your handlebars you can also make them bigger there also good for off road I live in Germany and use them I do long tours poland, france, Germany, Russia, and I come home to England sometimes as well
Regards barrie

tooltube

hi there, could you give more info on how you managed to mount your tool tube, ie brackets etc

You've plainly been in some muddy water..

If your idea of fun extends to deep gravel then you will find the Rallye steering damper a boon. It also raises the bars a bit.

OK first parts installed, Adv Spec crash bars, Bash plate and rear luggage plate. Thanks Chris as people say the instructions are very simple to follow and it all seems real quality.:thumb

got some more ideas for next month but it will probobly have to be just the 600m service, barkbusters and a scotoiler. proper strapped after Xmas:eek:

I just need the snow and ice to bugger off so i can ride it!!

No chance today, feck it im off to the pub:jager:beer:

Hey mate,
Just looking into getting the adventure spec bash plate - but wasn't sure what to make of their comment that you need to source BMW's 'F800GS sumpguard fitting kit'? What is this/how much does it cost?
Cheers.

Jonno,

I've got a 650 and am in the process of designing my own bashplate - got the bolt kit upon purchase and it's about £25 - £30 (not precise as i bought with 800's beak extender that is a third of the price from BMW as it is NN's!) I figured if some chap at BM worked out at what force the bolts should shear to prevent damage to the sump then his choice would be better then my 'well they kinda fit' approach :augie

The actual kit consists of four special bolts and one long. The four - this is gonna take some imagination - are like two bolts with the heads glued together with a hard plastic. In total 45mm long. The long one is 130 mm long and not so special.

Part 71 60 8 526 643 (does that sound right?)

The 800 should come with plastic plate secured by relevant bolts though i believe it's missing the one longish bolt that sits horizontally across the front of the sump...

Best of luck

This may actually make more sense!

And of course it's not just £6 for each of these lovelies - there's the obligatory BMW fifty page manual containing just three pages pertaining to the install!
