Put a ding in my front wheel this morning, so want to build up a set of wheels with stronger rims, but use the standard hub assembly.

I put a ding in my wheel and belt it straightis with a rubber mallet. The Behrs are soft allright but, my personal preference is for the softer rims that can be beaten back into some sort of shape in when out in the bush rather than harder rims which may crack and break.
Having said that there is a guy selling a 19inch front wheel (he liked the look) $300USD in soCal on advrider and another bloke with a set for $1200 USD in NJ. Neither are damage though. I can track them down if you want to go that far afield

are the wheels the same as Aprillia, i think the hubs may be the same, but i might be wrong

I think they are bmw specific. Hubs are the same on both xcountry and xchallenge though.
