Hi
I need some sheets of self adhesive vinyl to protect the fuel tank following a respray - something pliable that won't damage the paint should I need to remove it (and use rubber knee-pads later).

Please could anyone suggest a product and\or supplier?

A couple of contenders:
- "Fablon", available on eBay.
- A previous post mentioned vinyl sheets from GRAFITYP suitable for outdoor and use on ali panniers. Maybe a bit too "heavy-duty"?

Thanks

What colour, how much do you require, where are you.

What do you actually want it to do? save the paintwork from scuffs?

forget it.... unless you are really really skilled you won't be able to wrap a whole GS tank in vinyl

Correct, see the colour change thread. but it is possible with the right stuff, patience and skill.

FABLON will not work!!!

I have seen a football, covered in vinyl  but it does get messy :) it looks ok from 'a' angle but as you move it around it soon looses the effect.

Ive seen good results with that "stompgrip" enduro riders use it and some sports bike riders see fit to decorate theyre bikes with it (poofs) but it does look sort of cool and can be cut easily. Its takky so itll grip your knees and thighs *oerrr* which can also help prevent weight transfer from you sliding around.

They sell pre cut kits (no gs im afraid) or A3 sized sheets.

I think busters motorcycle accesories sell it?

Just google it and im sure yourll find it.

You don't really need to........

I did that in a morning (I know, it shows). It's Grafityp stuff, same as I use on the panniers.

I'll re-do it properly when I have the time.

I can't work out whether I really, really like that, or, it looks complete shite  ;)

I'll look forward to some more piccies when it's complete - I think :thumb

Thanks

Thanks for the tips and links
I don't intend to wrap the tank - just protect againt knees\jacket\tank bag following a respray. Colour of vinyl? Clear or white.

I'm considering rubber pads too but haven't identified kneepads that suit a HPN.

Get a s/h tank cover baglux prefered I'ved had one on my small 1150 tank and it's been perfect paint still perfect.

3M Paint Protection Film which is designed for the purpose.

I have some on the frontal surfaces on my GS Adventure gas tank and anodized front forks to protect those areas against stone chips. I'll be applying some in the knee areas as well.

It applies very easily with great results if you follow their simple instructions.
