I'm looking for a 2nd hand laptop and need some advice on which ones to consider.

It will be mainly used for -

1. Alena's Open Uni course work, so MS Office type stuff.
2. Downloading photos
3. Mapsource

I want one that is small (12" screen maybe) and light as I want to carry it in the topbox.

Spec should include DVD, a couple of USB ports, Win XP. Wifi enabled would be a nice to have.

I have looked on ebay and there are 1000s of the things so I'm hoping to get some guidance on what to look out for and what to pay. :thumb

I don't know about second hand, but Dell are doing new ones that would be suitable for around £350-£400 if that's any use?

I've bought 4 over the past few months, and so far can't fault the service or specifications/VFM. A word of advice though, buy them from the "small business section" rather than the "home user" section - they're cheaper + better specc'd for some reason :nenau

Wouldn't it be best to start with how much you expect or want to pay, and then look at what's available ?

Laptops start at @ £300 new for basic specs.

Try these people.......

They supply factory re-builds, I was recommended them by another forum member, bought one, my friends daughters have one each from them too.

Cheaper than new but none of the danger of buying something that has someone else's crap on it.

The smaller the screen the more you will pay. 12" screen and smaller are quite expensive, if you find any around the £350 mark, can you post a link? :thumb2

I called them yesterday, phone just rang out, sent an email to their sales enquiries and am still waiting for a response. :nenau

M'lud could do worse ...

... than calling Morgan Computers, they sell yesterdays technology at bargain prices. I have used them myself and recommended them to a couple of people on here who have been very pleased :thumb2
