Hello Wapping,

Good work on the routes.
Got the array of routes for the trip loaded into mapsource, apart from the zipped ones,
do we have agreement of which routes we are doing over the trip, or is that all still up for discussion. Hopefully should all fit into the zumo.

The only thing certain is the route to be taken down to the hotel. It's the compromise scenic route.

The 'ring is (I think) only open on the Sunday. Phil954 is a good bod to go there with, not least as he definitely knows his way around it.......... but he is also bloody (as in really genuinely) quick

I fancy coming back on the longer version of the scenic route. It is further, but if we can make a prompt start, wheels rolling at 09:00 say, it should be OK.

To err to safety, I've loaded them all up. This approach has got me and others whom are lost with me, out of a pickle a couple of times.

I hope to be at the train terminal in good time to catch the 08:20, probably getting a coffee.

As usual:

Please can everyone arrive in France with a full tank of fuel.

On leaving the train in France, please can we all gather together at the first fuel station on the left. That way we can be sure everyone is off without a problem and that nobody has joined themselves onto another group. It also makes sure nobody has joined us...... I have seen all three.

We have a decent way to go on Friday. Whilst the roads are reasonably straightforward, we will need to make sure time does not slip away. It won't be a race but no dawdling.

Route to the Hotel looks good, I have been on the new ring road around Cambrai on a return from Bouillon and it took me onto the Paris/Brussells M/way... Not sure how to get onto the new road from the A26

if you need a sweeper/back marker can my stint be for the A26 to Cambrai

I have been past the entrance to the new ringroad, going south, before it was finished. It will all be part of the adventure. Paris, is nice at this time of year.

Richard I'm sure this question has been asked countless times so forgive me if I ask it again. When the transfer of your maps from Mapsource to the Garmin is complete, should I accept the recalculate option? I mean what are the implications of doing this? Will I lose all your hard work and will your late nights spent pouring over maps with squinted eyes and only a single malt for company be for nought?

You have to press yes to load the routes into the device I think.

Otherwise it won't show up in the "routes" section when you want to use it.

Hello from Sweden.

Look at the route in Preview ( or whatever it's called) on your device. If it looks like a series of straight lines, you will have no option but to allow a recalculation.

If it looks OK, it might be OK to say, no.

You can't break it, albeit my 660 goes into a deep sulk when it sets about a recalculation. Garmin can replicate the fault but cannot fix it

If it goes wrong, delete the route and start again.

Ok thanks - and when it asks for the route preference once I accept that recalculation is inevitable; do I go for the faster time or shorter distance option (assume we'll not be traveling off-road). I guess that either of these selections could change your original route - no?

Don't worry .. if you bring a SD card with you .. you can always download it again from someone else's Garmin.

I don't know if its sods law (on my second Garmin as first one was replaced two weeks ago under warranty) but since downloading the routes it has gone native and switches itself off after 10 seconds. On the phone with Garmin now but I guess I'll be reading maps. Anyone else having issues?

I had it but mine shut down when it recalulated a route, so i turned off the recalculation mode and its not done it since

Hi Lloyd,

I think NLC's problem is a bit different.

His is that the routes do not match his maps. So the device may have to do a recalculation, or he will end up with a series of straight lines between each via point. You can of course navigate down the straight lines as they will just about follow the road, just making it awkward.

Yours was I think more of a problem of riding off route, the device realising, recalculating to get you out of a hole and shutting down to drop you in it deeper.
