Wapping's Wanders Four - One (or two) day jaunt to France - Saturday 25 (26) June

Don't know what crossing we will be on yet to be honest, it revolves around how I manage up North.

Look forward to it either way.

OK

Jimbos not coming on his own ahead of you?

You have my no. drop me a text when you expect to cross. If I pick it up we can try to meet up.

While you are there.

Hi Richard,

Looking at your map, on the bottom loop where the Helmet marker is. Draw a line direct to the coast and there is a lovely little fishing village called Le Treport. Would make a nice stop for lunch.

Point is whilst you are there you could pop up the hill to the CWGC just on the outskirts of the town and say hello to the brother of the chap I took you to down in Villiers Plouch. His name is Elias Jones :thumb2

Have a good weekend.

Cheers

David.

Hi David

Thanks for your note.

The arrow near enough marks our overnight stop, so going to Treport for lunch is not an option I'm afraid.

But I will check it out for the future, along with the cemetery you mention. To have two brothers hurried in a foreign country but many miles apart shows the huge scale of the conflict the poor fellows endured.

Maybe we could fix something up for 2012, involving the usual culprits?

Richard

PS A great name, Elias Jones. Indeed, there will always be a corner of a foreign field that will be forever Welsh. :thumb2

I have two cry-off's, wwwwwwwwweb and his friend, Jimbogs.

Just before I cancel their rooms, any punters out there who want to take their places?

I will let the hotel know tomorrow evening, 18:00, so sing up.

Richard

Forecast, is for sunshine and no rain unlike the UK. Combined with great roads, cracking scenery, red wine, and decent French cuisine. What's not to like.

Richie has requested that I hold the second spare slot for him.

There were two spare slots.

One reserved for Brummie, the second for Richie.

Cheers Richard,

So now rather than reading through the whole thread again.... What time should I be at Bollezeele. I will be coming from Tournai in Belgium which is only about an hour away... Will we meet on the "Place"???? I will be a bit earlier than you say as I know I will need some coffee.... "un grand cafe creme svp":thumb

Hi Richie,

We are on the 07:20 train, arriving at 08:55 Frog time.

Assuming we have no significant delays getting off the train, I would expect to be in Bolezeel at about 10:00.

There is a large square in the village, right by the (very big) church. It has always been empty every time I go through the place. The cafe is smack opposite the church, usual tables etc set up outside. Cafe Centre, or something like that.

Coffee order noted :thumb2

Spoken to Brummie, who is now booting his better half into action to buy his tickets. :thumb2 I have agreed to meet him somewhere en-route if he cannot get on the same train out. Something will be possible, for sure.

Assuming he and Richie can tidy-up their last bits and bobs we are back at full strength. I will reconfirm the rooms with the hotel this evening anyway.

The weather forecast looks not too bad, maybe a shower or two.

Roll on Saturday!

Richard

I still think it's a good idea on planning to take a packed lunch of some description for Sunday, too.

OK I will be there I have at least a weeks work to go in Belgium. I reckon you could easily be at Bollezeele by 9:45 So I aim to be at the Grand Place for about that time.

See you guys on Saturday:thumb
