......... Of getting them replaced under warranty:nenau

My bike is in for it's 12k and annual service tomorrow at Coopers Tunbridge Wells. It's only a year old and I've owned it from new (Purchased from them, Serviced by them)
The discs are not really serious but the bike is starting to nod it's head while braking at low speeds.

Come on then guys .. what do you reckon my chances are?

I'd ask them to check the run-out and the thickness of the discs.

If the run-out exceeds the service spec. and the thickness is still within it, I'd suggest that you pursue them relentlessly until they replace the discs and pads under warranty.

However, if the discs are thinner than the service spec., I'd suggest that you're buggered.

I like it! Do you happen to know what these two measurments are (Thickness / Run out)
I could check them before I set out tomorrow!

Hi,

I bought my 1200GSA pre owned and a year old with 18000 miles on the clock.

I had exactly the same problem. When I took it back for a service I mentioned the apparent 'warped discs'...........although the discs were within BMW tolerances when the technician rode the bike they agreed with me that there was a problem.

The dealer replaced discs and pads all round.

Fantastic service.

But they did mention that it might re occur in the future and that it is common.

I would suggest you are polite but insistent, maybe mentioning that you are aware there is a 'problem' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck.

Ian

I cured mine by cleaning the disks/pads and pistons as they were coated with winter road crap.

Just a thought, like....

it's a known issue, just had new front discs and pads on my 08 GSA at 9,500 miles.

Dealer should change under warranty with no questions asked

I collected my bike from Coopers this evening.
Service all carried out as requested, I spoke to the technician who told me that he did find the discs to be warped but at the moment they are exactly on the limit of their allowed run-out tolerance. He told me to do a couple more thousand miles at which point they will have warped enough to make an effective warranty claim.
I was informed that the discs are fully covered under warranty regardless of mileage as long as they were not worn below 4mm thick. (they start at 5mm when new)
I have to say I'm happy with this situation, Particularly as the brakes are only grabbing very slightly, It means I get another couple of thousand miles before I get a free set of new discs and pads:thumb

Thanks for the feedback. It's nice to know that BMW Motorrad is as logical as I am......:)

I can't see why it should be a problem getting warped discs sorted under warranty. I took my 2007 Triumph Tiger 1050 in for it's 6000mile service recently, and mentioned that there was a slight judder from the front when braking hard, and that I thought it may be warped discs.
The shop (Phil Youles, Blackburn) confirmed the problem and it was sorted straight away as a warranty claim.
