I've got a few months left on the warranty of my 06 650GS; is there anything I should look to be making a claim on before it runs out?
its had the steering head bearings done a few miles ago.
the forks are showing evidence on 2 years on the road all year round but not 'that' bad.

There are a few bits of rust showing on areas like footpegs but again nothing other than cosmetic really!

Where else do I need to be looking?

I don’t think you need to worry about anything else. SHB`s would be the first thing I would have mentioned. Did you have them replaced with the OE ones?
Think you are being realistic with the wee bits of corrosion around the rest of the bike :thumb2
Don’t get hung up about it, you start to hear all sorts of noises when you start thinking too much about it. I had an oil pressure switch go on mine about the same age, but it was just a switch. Get out there and enjoy it.

thanks for the reassurance :thumb
I should probably point out its got 10k on the clock & the warranty is probably going to run out before the next service is due.

The SHB were done by Rainbow, they pointed it out at the 6k service (I'd read of the problem but not noticed it on my bike)...so I assume if its been a big problem for BMW then they'll be replacing them with a higher spec than the factory used.
(got a feeling the 1 series gets a new ic in the electric lumber support circuitry on its first service too ;))

Hopefully Rainbow will be getting a demonstrator F800GS so I can leave mine in for quick inspection while I'm out on a test ride... At least that's what the mrs is getting told ;) ;)

You reckon? Mine were replaced under warranty at 4000mls and I had to replace them again at 15,000......

Check the condition of the wiring harness where it crosses over from the frame to the engine - it can rub on the back of the remote preload adjuster and short out .This is a common failure , caused by slipshod fitting at the factory, but warranty claims are resisted.

BMW claims nil stock of replacements and cant quote a date when they will have any and even if you supply a good S/H one they wont fit under warranty.

Also check the water pump - there is a drain hole under the pump and any sign of moisture or emulsified oil means you are up for a new pump, or worse if you cook the engine.

As well as the steering head some bikes had sub standard bearings in the wheels and shock linkages so they are worth a check, too.
