Does the (non extended) warranty transfer to the new owner automatically? I bought my bike nearly new from a non-BMW dealer so I expect I need to some additional paperwork. Do I have to contact BMW and the Datatag and give me my new details or is there some special process I need to do at a dealers?

The OEM 2 year warranty is on the bike not the owner so it will automatically transfer. BMW have your bike on their database so no need for any paperwork.

Dealer should have provided the datatag details with the bike documents for you to register, equally he should inform BMW as you should receive all the warranty details along with a plastic card with the bike details and contacts for bmw assist, i received all mine within two weeks of collecting the bike (ex demo). In your case if its a non bmw dealer I would contact bmw uk to register your details, get back on to the dealer for your datatag membership reference.
