Out of curiosity I did an on-line quote for 12 months warranty for my 56 plate, 37000 mile GSA. :type

These people .. www.usedvehiclewarranty.co.uk .. quoted me £145 and £178, (different types of cover). :D

My question is .. has anybody had any dealings with these people, :nenau.. will I get any money back should I have a claim :nenau.. should I keep my money in my pocket and hope for the best :augie

I bought mine from BMW warranty for about £275 for the year with emergency assist and pay it monthly. Buying the bike from a non-BMW source and getting the BMW warranty was about £1200 cheaper than the equivilent package from a BMW dealer. So for peace of mind i'm happy but not had to claim yet so couldn't tell you how good the service is.

Personal decision which depends on how risk averse you are. For me it's a no, and I have an extra grand in my pocket I wouldn't have otherwise after being 14 months out of manufacturers warranty. It's my risk that this may not be the case in a years time. I do my own servicing and can afford to pay for something that breaks so happy to not have warranty on that basis.

This "shall I get warranty" question on the 1200 always ends up the same - different views, all based on real experiences. Crystal ball anyone?

Last year I went to http://www.warrantydirect.co.uk , I had a £800 and £1250 claim ( on 2 different cars ). They also do bikes. For claims under £800 authorization is immediate, over 800 , can take a few days . You only get replacement vehicle if the repair work is over 8 hours.
On the bike I am with BMW,they paid out for a new shock/ESA/control unit which came to £1500+labour.

I recommend that you read all of the small print before making a decision. Some of the insurance backed warranties aren't worth the paper they are written on. I have never taken one in my 40 years of motorised vehicle ownership.

Quite common to have exclusions such as "damage arising from another failed component". So if the oil pump fails and wrecks the crank do you get a rebuilt engine or a new oil pump?

It is the small print that worries me a tad :eek the definitions that they give are vague to say the least.
I am still in 2 minds about this, I understand a Final drive failure will set you back £1000 on parts alone  which is a worry.
I think I will take a chance and ride without.. if it goes tits up I will have to live with it :D

bmw warranty

Well for £1 a day your covered an recovered on any trip an put up if on tour and cant be fixed ,its all just piece of mind ,dip your toe or get wet.
Id rather pay £1 a day noing its covered than have to find £1000 for a repair whilst in europe on the side of a shitty road, game over :tears

You may want to check the cover when abroad, I am sure in another thread someone mentioned some warranties will not pay put for work done abroad.

Must admit with the 1200GS it is a big dilema, normally I would bank the £300 a year and go indie for servicing making a good £500 a year saving - in the last 20 years I have had no expensive failures on any motorcycle....

...but with the GS you could easily have an FD failure (£1500) ABS wotsit (£1500) Dropped Valve (£4k?) plus the small parts which sooner or later will almost certainly let you down such as the FPC, EWS, Fuel gauge :blagblah

If I had a high mileage bike I would definately take the warranty, now thinking of taking a gamble and riding for a year with no warranty and selling the bike before it hits 20k and the dropped valve / FD explosions start looking imminent.
