Nothing tooooo urgent- but do you get a warranty on a warranty repair?
Shall I get jobs done now- or wait till warranty nearly out- so that I get an extended guarantee ?

Gearbox end seal- and now final drive oil seal. 10,000 miles 05 1200GS
Thought it was sealed for life
Disappointing
But still love the bike
:( :D

Warranty time.

Any repairs carried out under warranty only have the original warranty period. In other words if the engine blows with two days left and a new engine is fitted, legally you have two days of warranty on the engine.
This applies to anything from toasters to houses. But usually if a problem is reported and more importantly documented within the warranty period you usually get it repaired under a goodwill warranty claim. You can try to get an extended warranty if you have a serious or recurring problem, like the engine going bang with two days to go.

In the case that Ted describes you would have every justification in saying the repair itself was faulty. However, if your engine blew with one year of warranty left and the repaired unit blew again one day after the original warranty ran out, you would be in trouble. Warranty repairs are making good the original fault so the logic is that you are in the same position after the repair as you would have been had the fault never occurred.

Never had any warranty claims on my (now deceased) bike but I had a claim on my BMW car honoured at 4 years and 50000 miles. They seem quite good to me if you are reasonable

with respect I am no sure if Ted is correct :) I was told recently by a dealer (non BMW) that a part fitted to a bike under warranty will have at least 1 years warranty on it, or perhaps a new warranty that would have been the length of the bikes original warranty. - My Ducati has been out or warranty since March this year, - this week it had warranty work carried out on it to replace a part (engine CPU) as a problem encountered over a year ago as re-appeared. They had to get it approved from Ducati UK which was not a problem.
