So new Canbus controller has arrived from Germany and the problem is still there albeit drain is down from 100mah to 60mah, but it will still drain the battery within 2 weeks. BMW seem stumped. So guys what do you suggest is my next move should be.

If they can't fix it, there's only one solution.

Yep keep riding it

But seriously hope you get it sorted there is nothing worse than having to keep going to the dealers with a fault for them to try and fix,

Terry

Have you got autocom fitted as without a relay this can sometimes keep canbus live and cause battery to go flat on a GS , perhaps this could be same on XR.

Life`s to short to get too overwhelmed with this fella - go ride ya ass off.

However................. "BMW seem stumped" isn`t acceptable from them - they really need to sort it by replacing one item or assembly at a time until its resolved. Its crap and awful for them but (sadly) its what they need to do until its resolved - if its still under warranty

Too many complex electronics systems being fitted on the new bikes, fine when they work but glitches like this often don't leave an electronic fingerprint afterwards and cannot be detected by dealer and even BMW's remote software reading equipment and that's when everyone becomes 'stumped.'

I've been on the receiving end of it and when away earlier this year spoke to a Swiss lad who had a 2014 gs te, which had electronic glitches leading to it having had 3 ecu's and 2 full wiring looms plus numerous other sensors and electrical systems replaced before it was eventually cured

Do a Parasitic Draw Test it will show where it leaks juice.
See youtube, loads of info

Problem now solved, bike was delivered back this pm.:D

So both the original dealer, AJ and the repairing dealer BR were eventually involved as well as BMW UK. Fault was the canbus controller not shutting down at all. Early XR's the controller shut everything off after 1 min, but my bike was built on the day the fatherland modified the software to shut everything off after 5mins so BMW UK are reading the bikes diagnostics remotely and seeing a drain after 1 min so problem still there. Anyway somehow someone twigged and bike now shuts down perfect after 5 mins.

So bike is back and AR are trying to negotiate a benefit from BMW. Waiting to see how good that is.

Will be out tomorrow in the pissing rain to check on Mark's heavier bar end weights!

Sorted.:thumb

Wait until Sunday, the weather will be better then.:rob

Need a ride in the rain as I'm in for my ROSPA gold exam and haven't ridden the XR in heavy rain yet and just my luck it will piss down on the day of the exam. Also I want to attend the Remembrance Day service in the village church on Sunday, followed by a few pints in the village pub.
Tough life up here in gods country.!

Yup, but the rain is biblical here in the village so will wait a few hours until it calms down a bit, don't need to get thoroughly soaked just for the fun of it.

No bikes at 9am when I went past

Biblical rain & floods instead

Skipwith road was awash
